Positive results for South Africa
Visitor arrivals to South Africa increased 16% in the first quarter of this year.
This betters results in 2005, when arrivals increased by 10.2%, according to World Tourism Organisation data.
There was growth across all sources, says South Africa Tourism. Africa/Middle East was up 21.9% - in part a result of increased air access from Ghana and Democratic Congo but also because of a growth in land arrivals - particularly from Mozambique (up 130%, albeit on a small base).
There was 7.1% growth from Asia/Australasia (Australia was up 10.2%) and from Europe (up 3.6%). One exception to this positive picture is the UK; although this source grew 3% in Q1 2006, it declined during the second half of 2005.
