PATA Rallies to Support Indonesian Tourism
PATA sent a message of condolence, support and solidarity to each of its members in Indonesia on Monday morning, after an earthquake rocked Central Java, Saturday.
The Association also created a dedicated page to host news from members and friends in Indonesia. The page is linked from PATA's "Crisis Centre" at www.PATA.org/crisis.
PATA's fears that bookings to Indonesian destinations unaffected by the earthquake may be negatively impacted are being realised with a report from Bali Hilton International that the property has already received cancellations for 48 room nights (as at 1830, May 30).
PATA's global network of members and friends are requested to spread the following message:

All Indonesian destinations, except for some parts of Central Java, were unaffected by the earthquake. Please continue with your travel plans.

PATA President and CEO Mr Peter de Jong said: "It is vital that we try to limit unnecessary cancellations in destinations unaffected by the earthquake -- and do our best to encourage a return to normality in worst-hit destinations."

Online travel package purchases on the rise
JupiterResearch, an authority on the impact of the Internet and emerging consumer technologies on business, finds there has been a more than 40 percent increase in package sales during 2006 among  online travelers requiring multiple products; this comes after relatively flat growth between 2004 and 2005. The findings are detailed in a new report, "US Travel Consumer Survey, 2006."
"In 2005, 29 percent of travelers requiring multiple travel products purchased a package; in 2006, this increased to 41 percent," said Diane Clarkson, Analyst at JupiterResearch and author of the report. "This growth is largely influenced by strong packaging promotions implemented by major online travel agencies, where virtually all of these sales are occurring."
