Economic growth reflected in strong passenger and freight demand
(Geneva) The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released international traffic data for May 2006 showing 7% growth in passenger demand and 5.1% growth for freight over the same period in 2005. Load factor for May achieved an average of 73.6%.

Boeing, Ryanair Announce Order for 10 Next-Generation 737s
SEATTLE, July 03, 2006 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] has logged 10 more orders for its popular Next-Generation 737-800 from Ryanair, Europe's largest and most profitable low-cost carrier.
The order, valued at $705 million at list prices, stems from options contained in a previous purchase contract. Deliveries for this order begin in 2008. The order was previously accounted for on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries website and attributed to an unidentified customer.
The airplanes will be fitted with Blended Winglets, which reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency by 3 to 5 percent.
Ryanair recently completed its Boeing 737-200 replacement program, and today operates one of the youngest aircraft fleets in Europe, composed entirely of 737-800s.
Boeing and Ryanair celebrated the delivery of Ryanair's 100th Next-Generation 737 in March. Ryanair is the largest European operator of 737s, and second in the world after Southwest Airlines.

Virgin Atlantic launches services to Jamaica
July 04, 2006 -- Virgin Atlantic Airways launched its first services between London and Jamaica. The direct flights between London Gatwick and Montego Bay will be twice-weekly and will operate on a Boeing 747-400. The new services mean up to 100,000 more visitors travelling between the UK and Montego Bay within the first 12 months.
According to the Jamaican Tourist Board, in the first six months of this year the number of UK visitors to Jamaica rose by 19%, compared with the first half of 2005. April alone saw a record number of UK visitors with an increase of 35% year on year.

Air France And KLM Test Radio Frequency Identification Tags For Bagage Handling
And Tracking Management
Effective today, Air France will be running a trial with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags to label and track passenger* baggage on flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. KLM starts the trial on July 10 at two baggage drop-off points in Departure Hall 2 at Schiphol. The RFID tags will be used for all baggage dropped off at these points, regardless of the destination. Later this year, all drop-off points in Departure Hall 2 will be equipped to handle RFID tags. KLM developed RFID together with Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, which is responsible for facilitation. Boeing, Aeromexico, ILFC Announce Deal for 787 Dreamliners

SEATTLE, June 29, 2006 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] International Lease Finance Corp. (ILFC) and Aeromexico, Mexico's largest airline, today announced the carrier will operate three 787 Dreamliner airplanes, making it the first Latin American airline to incorporate the mostly composite airplane into its fleet.
Aeromexico will lease the three 787-8s from ILFC with deliveries sche-
duled to begin in early 2010. ILFC has 20 787 Dreamliners on order.

The announcement follows Aeromexico orders earlier this year for six Next-Generation 737s and the recent deliveries of two 777-200ERs. The twin-aisle 787s and 777s are part of Aeromexico's continued fleet renewal plan and will be used on routes to Europe and Asia and will replace Boeing 767s that are coming off of leases. The 777s, also leased from ILFC, and 787s will provide long-range, point-to-point capability and flexibility to respond to changing capacity demands.

Emirates News Agency -- Abu Dhabi, July 02 -- The Abu Dhabi National Hotels Company has announced that it would build a Dhs.700 million five stars tourist resort in Sadiyaat Island.
To be built on a 807 square metre plot of land that will be purchased from the Tourism Development and Investment Company, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, the resort will include a 400-room hotel to be managed by an international chain..

More visitors arrived in Nepal in June despite political unstability
Visitors` arrival to Nepal by air route registered a 13.8% growth in June 2006 reaching a total of 21,444 visitors. The growth was fuelled by an increase in Indian visitor numbers by 23% while the non-Indian market remained stagnant compared to the same period last year. This was indicated in the figures by Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation quoting Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.

Kopenhagen telt tien Michelinsterren
Dat de Deense hoofdstad Kopenhagen op culinair terrein hoge ogen gooit, bewijst de nieuwe uitgave van de gezaghebbende Guide Michelin van Denemarken. Tien restaurants – alle gelegen in het gebied van Groot-Kopenhagen – hebben ditmaal elk één ster toebedeeld gekregen. Één van de bedrijven is nieuw op de erelijst.
De tien onderscheiden restaurants zijn: Ensemble (Tordenskjoldsgade 11), Era Ora (Ovengaden neden Vandet 33 B), Formel B (Vesterbrogade 182), Godt (Gothersgade 38), Kommandanten (Ny Adelgade 7), Kong Hans Kœlder (Vingårdsstrœde 6), Noma (Strandgade 93), Rasmus Oubœk (Store Kongensgade 52), The Paul (Vesterbrogade 3) en Kokkeriet (Kronprinsessegade 64). Some 40 participants from 31 UNWTO member countries attended the Seminar, which ran for a total of 43 hours, including keynote lectures, panel discussions and workshops. Bernard Tuyttens aangesteld als nieuwe Algemeen Secretaris van de Federatie van de Toeristische Industrie
Op 30 juni 2006 vond de algemene vergadering plaats van de vzw Federatie van de Toeristische Industrie, de koepelorganisatie voor beroepsverenigingen (touroperators, horeca, verhuur vakantie-
woningen, campings, reisbureaus, autocarondernemers…) werkzaam in de privé reisindustrie. Ter gelegenheid hiervan stelde Piet Vintevogel zijn mandaat als algemeen secretaris ter beschikking na 10 jaar deze functie te hebben waargenomen. Tijdens de raad van bestuur die voorafging aan de Algemene Vergadering werd Piet Vintevogel gehuldigd voor zijn inzet en de geleverde realisaties.

Summer In Provence As Eurostar Starts Direct Services To Avignon
Eurostar, the high-speed train service that links the UK, France and Belgium, launches its weekly direct service on Saturday 8 July to Avignon in the heart of Provence. This is the fifth successive year Eurostar has operated this popular service which takes just over 6 hours from London and 5 hours from Ashford, in Kent.

40% increase in numbers of people booking travel online
There has been a dramatic rise of 40% over the last year in the numbers of people booking their travel on-line, according to SITA, the provider of communications and IT solutions to the air transport industry.
Early data from the most comprehensive industry survey of airline IT trends, states that the global average of on-line plane ticket sales now stands at 28% compared to 20% last year which means that an estimated 560 million of today’s two billion airline passengers now use the Internet to make their bookings.

Thomas Cook Taps IBM to Lead Creation of Next Generation IT Platform
IBM to Manage Business Transformation for Major Travel Group
STUTTGART, GERMANY -- June 29, 2006 -- Thomas Cook AG, one of the world's largest travel groups and IBM today signed a contract to develop a new IT platform. In terms of the agreement, IBM business consultants will provide industry expertise and integration knowledge to help Thomas Cook become more efficient, more flexible and respond faster to market demands.
Part of Thomas Cook's GLOBE project, IBM will be responsible for integrating the new production platform into the existing system landscape. The software for the new tour operator system is supplied by BlueSky Travel Systems of Manchester, England, who have extensive experience in developing dynamic packaging systems. The integration layer of the new platform will be built with IBM's Websphere.
BCD Travel now on Amadeus in the Netherlands

European Commission approves proposed acquisition of Carlson Wagonlit by CCI and OEP
July 05, 2006 -- The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of joint control of Carlson Wagonlit, by the US companies Carlson and One Equity Partners, a subsidiary of JP Morgan Company. The Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.
