Finnair commits to growth with long-haul fleet modernisation
Finnair is to acquire 12 new Airbus wide-bodied aircraft, as it modernises its long-haul fleet. Of the aircraft, nine are A350s and three are A340s.
Owing to strong growth in Asian traffic, the A340 aircraft will be acquired earlier, in 2007-08. The Airbus A350 is a new type of aircraft and the first of them will join the Finnair fleet in 2011. The value of the order will amount over one billion euros.

In November Air France-KLM posted a further strong increase in both activity levels and traffic revenues, confirming the buoyant trading environment of previous months and the positive trend in bookings for the forthcoming months. Traffic increased sharply by 12.2% on 8.0% higher capacity. The load factor improved significantly: up 2.9 points to 78.6%. The number of passenger carried increased by 9.2% to 5.5 million. The Americas posted a particularly dynamic level of activity, with traffic rising 17.3% on 10.8% higher capacity. The load factor reached 85.5%, up 4.7 points. Activity on Asian routes remained buoyant, with traffic increasing by 15.5% on 11.3% higher capacity. The load factor gained 3.0 points to reach 83.1%. On the Africa & Middle-East network, traffic increased by 14.1% while capacity was up 11.1%. The load factor rose 2.0 points to reach 75.1%, thanks notably to the strong performance of the Middle-East sector. On the Caribbean & Indian Ocean sector, traffic decreased by 1.5% on 2.7% higher capacity. Although down 3.5 points, the load factor stood at the still high level of 81.0%. The European network continued to post record levels of activity with traffic increasing sharply (up 8.9%) on 2.6% higher capacity. Load factor rose significantly (up 3.9 points) to reach 66.7%.

An Iranian military plane carrying at least 94 people crashed into a Tehran apartment block and exploded on Tuesday, killing all those on board and several others on the ground, police and witnesses said. The Tehran Coroner's Office said it expected 128 dead.

SEATTLE, Dec. 6, 2005 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and Royal Air Maroc today announced the firm-order agreement for four 787 Dreamliners with an option for the purchase of one additional airplane. The first 787 is scheduled for delivery in late 2008.

NEW YORK, Dec. 6 -- CIT Group Inc. (NYSE:CIT), a leading provider of commercial and consumer finance solutions, today announced it will purchase ten new Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Delta Air Lines upon the delivery of the aircraft by The Boeing Company to Delta. The total dollar value of the aircraft is approximately US $600 million, based on Boeing's current list prices.
The ten aircraft are currently part of Delta's existing order backlog with Boeing. Nine of the aircraft will be delivered in 2007 and one in 2008.

EAGAN, Minn. -- (December 6, 2005) -- Northwest Airlines today announced a systemwide November load factor of 81.2 percent, 3.5 points above November 2004. Northwest flew 5.5 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) and 6.74 billion available seat miles (ASMs) in November 2005, a traffic decrease of 5.1 percent and a capacity decrease of 9.1 percent versus November 2004.

Airbus to extend industrial cooperation with China
The National Development & Reform Commission of China (NDRC) and Airbus have signed a Memorandum of Understanding about the cooperation between the Chinese civil aviation industry and the European manufacturer. The MOU sets the frame for a further upgrade of the cooperation between both parties. PAL acquires 18 Airbus jets in major refleeting move
MANILA - December 6, 2005 -- Philippine Airlines and Airbus today signed a purchase agreement that launches the flag carrier's modernization program for its narrow-body fleet - a move that will see PAL acquire up to 18 Airbus A320 family aircraft.
The package includes a firm order for nine brand-new A320 jets and options for five more new A320s - the subjects of today's signing ceremony with Airbus. The deal is valued at approximately $840 million based on list prices.

Adjusted KLM Schedule Means More Flights And Improved Capacity Utilization
AMSTELVEEN, December 2, 2005 - KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will restructure its flight schedule at the start of summer 2006, offering customers a wider range of frequencies and connecting flights. By better spreading peak load across the day, KLM will assure the Air France-KLM Group and SkyTeam partners further room for growth at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

AMSTELVEEN, December 2, 2005 - KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is in the process of launching its fully revamped website in 70 countries, offering customers greater accessibility, speed, and simplicity. Revamped sites have already gone live in various Anglophone countries. Today sees the launch of the new Dutch-language site, accessible via www.klm.nl and www.klm.com.
The site overhaul is part of KLM's broader objective to achieve a global online booking score of 40% in fiscal 2007/08. KLM's current score is 12%. More than half of these customers make use of internet check-in.

Virgin Atlantic Continues Expansion Drive With Extra Services To Key Destinations Worldwide 02 Dec 05 -- Virgin Atlantic Airways today announced that it plans to continue its expansion drive by increasing services to many of its key business and leisure routes in the next month. Services to Mumbai will increase from three services per week to daily from today, its six-weekly Shanghai flights will also become daily from 7 December followed by daily services to Cape Town over the peak winter season from 29 January to 25 March 2006. Flights to Las Vegas have increased by 50% already this year with a fifth weekly service being added in July and a sixth weekly service launched in September. Read more.

easyJet, Europe's leading low-cost airline announces yet another new route from London Gatwick Airport today. The service to Milan (Malpensa) will operate 12 flights per week starting on Thursday 1 December, with prices starting from £22.99 single (£40.98 return incl. tax). The airline expects to carry over 180,000 passengers during the first 12 months of operation. easyJet is the largest low-cost carrier at London Gatwick Airport, offering 29 routes to 12 countries throughout Europe.

SAO JOSE DOS CAMPOS, Brazil, Dec. 2 -- Embraer announced today that Finnair has exercised four of its EMBRAER 170 options, converting them to EMBRAER 190 firm orders. These aircraft add to the original firm order of 12 EMBRAER 170s placed in June 2004 by the airline.
Deliveries of the four additional jets are expected to take place in 2007. In addition, from the initial order of 12 EMBRAER 170s, the 11th and 12th aircraft will be delivered as EMBRAER 190s by the end of 2006. Thus, the Finnish national carrier's E-Jets fleet will comprise a total of ten EMBRAER 170s and six EMBRAER 190s. The airline still holds four EMBRAER 170 options, which are convertible to other members of Embraer's E-Jets family.

SYDNEY - Travellers from Australia to London can now stop over in tropical Tahiti, thanks to a new partnership between Air Tahiti Nui and Virgin Atlantic Airways. The arrangement between the airlines effectively creates a new round-the-world itinerary. Air Tahiti Nui flies from Sydney to Tahiti, with onward services to New York City and to Paris via Los Angeles. Virgin Atlantic's network includes flights from Los Angeles and New York to London Heathrow, and from Sydney to London, via Hong Kong.

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines is to restart a three-times-weekly service to the cities of Karachi and Lahore, in Pakistan, from 1 February 2006. Flights will depart Singapore on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday of each week, at 1535 hours and operate a circular routing to both Karachi and Lahore.

DOHA - Qatar Airways is celebrating the first anniversary of its Beijing service by increasing frequency on the route. An extra scheduled flight is now operating between Doha and Beijing, taking capacity up from three to four non-stop flights a week. The new service QR898 departs Doha on Monday evening at 2305, arriving in the Chinese capital at 1215. The return flight QR899 leaves Beijing on Tuesday afternoon at 1610, arriving in Doha at 2045 the same day. The airline is also planning to increase frequency to Shanghai in the New Year, and from March 26 next year, the airline will launch daily scheduled flights between Doha and Hong Kong.

CAIRNS - Australian Airlines is to commence double daily services between Tokyo and Cairns from mid-2006, as Qantas withdraws from the route. As a result of these changes, the Qantas Group will offer more than 500 additional seats each week between Tokyo and Cairns. With 14 weekly services between Tokyo and Cairns, Australian Airlines will offer almost double its current number of services between Japan and Australia. It is planned that the existing codeshare arrangement with Japan Airlines on Qantas-operated services between Cairns and Tokyo will continue uninterrupted when Australian Airlines commences operating on the route mid-2006.

CAIRNS - Australian Airlines is to launch a Premium Economy cabin from mid-2006. The airline currently offers an all-Economy cabin of 271 seats, which will be reconfigured as 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy seats. The main features of Australian Airlines Premium Economy product would include more spacious seating, priority boarding and priority meal service.

ABU DHABI - Etihad Airways is to launch new services between Abu Dhabi and Johannesburg today (Thursday). Etihad flight EY603 will fly from Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg at 0045 hours every Thursday and Saturday, with the return flight, EY604, leaving Johannesburg at 0950 hours on the same day.

TOKYO - JAL is to temporarily resume normal international flight services between Japan and Indonesia over the New Year vacation period. Over the New Year vacation period, JAL will resume full operation of the three daily direct services it normally offers passengers between Japan and Indonesia. From December 22, 2005 to January 9, 2006, passengers will be able to travel daily from Tokyo (Narita) to either Denpasar (Bali) or Jakarta direct. Daily service between Osaka (Kansai) and Denpasar will once again be available from December 27 to January 4.

Na de trilogie van de Lord of de Rings, staat Nieuw-Zeeland aan de vooravond van enkele bijzondere filmpresentaties. Op 14 december a.s. is in de Auckland de wereldpremière van de spektakel film "King Kong". Een week later gaat het filmdoek open voor het eerste deel van de Narnia Kronieken: "De leeuw, de heks en de kleerkast". Later in januari 2006 volgen "The River Queen" en de Europese première van "The Worlds' Fastest Indian". Laatst genoemde film is momenteel een kaskraker in Nieuw-Zeeland. Sir Anthony Hopkins speelt de hoofdrol in deze rolprent.
