Terrorism
The U.S. has raised its threat warning to the highest level for commercial flights from Britain to the United States in response to a terror plot disrupted in London. According to The Associated Press, the terrorists had targeted United, American and Continental airlines, two U.S. counterterrorism officials said.
Flights between Brussels and London Heathrow
Zaventem, 10 Augustus 2006 - Because of the exceptional security measures that currently apply at London Heathrow, all flights between Brussels and this airport are cancelled until further notice. Flights to the other London airports are carried out as scheduled.
Passengers having London Heathrow as their final destination are strongly advised to contact their airline or travel agent before coming to the airport this morning.
For passengers who would normally have flown to their final destination via Heathrow today, the airlines are doing their utmost to propose an alternative travel route with departure from Brussels.
Passengers for direct transatlantic flights departing from Brussels are requested to come to the airport well in time.
ATA Statement on Terror Plot in Britain
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 -- The Air Transport Association (ATA), the industry organization representing leading U.S. airlines, today issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) security steps based on specific threat information related to the terror plot in Britain:
"The government's announcement of temporarily heightened security measures, banning any passenger from carrying liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions aboard aircraft, are in response to serious threat information discovered and acted upon by the authorities. The airlines are cooperating fully with DHS in implementing these measures to assure the safety and security of our customers and crews. While it is likely these temporary measures will result in passenger inconvenience, we hope that the traveling public understands these measures will allow them to travel with confidence in the security of our system."
British police deters terrorist attacks on planes
British police has managed to deter terrorist plan with bombings to airplanes in mid-flight from UK to US and arrested suspects in the area of London. Alert signaled to all the British airports and the hand luggages had been forbidden.
The terrorists` plan that has been exposed in Britain had clear target to the simultaneously shooting down of numerous planes during flight causing great losses in human lives, John Reid, the Home Secretary commented.
A plot to blow up aircraft flying from the UK was "intended to be mass murder on an unimaginable scale," a police spokesman says.
ASTA has issued the following member alert:

Moscow Hotels Reap the Highest Profits in Europe
Asurvey from the TRI Hospitality Consulting said that Moscow is the city with the most profitable hospitality business. The survey covers ten big European cities. It is interesting that Moscow is behind Paris, London and Amsterdam in average rate per room. Moscow scores only fourth in average daily
revenue per available room, but was the second in terms of revenues per client, said the TRI survey. Regardless, Moscow proved the only city where the per room net profit was a threefigure number (prior to fixed charges deduction).
The amount reached EUR 130.38 in 2006. The cause of high revenues is the difference in wages.
The Moscow hotels are not only most profitable, but also the most expensive in Europe.
