Adria Airways To Join Star Alliance Common Information Technology Platform
FRANKFURT, Germany - May 10th, 2007 - Star Alliance Regional Member Adria Airways, the Slovenian flag carrier, has decided to replace its current legacy IT system with the Star Alliance Common IT Platform (CITP), the alliance's next generation technology platform for Customer Management Systems. Fraport AG says Bulgaria Q1 revenue at 1.1 mln euro
Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, a Fraport AG subsidiary established in the previous fiscal year to operate the airports at the Bulgarian Black Sea resorts Varna and Burgas within a 35-year concession, reported revenue in the first quarter 2007 in the amount of 1.1 mln euro, show the Q1 results of the parent company.
The operating expenses totaled 3.6 mln euro.
The two airports are characterised by tourist travel and therefore earn most of the revenue in the summer season. The current operating costs exceed revenue in the low season.
Fraport said that at the airports in Bulgaria operated by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, there is a risk of environmental pollution arising from kerosene tanks which are not up to industrial standards. The respective measures to meet such industrial standards have already been started.(Dnevnik)

SkyEurope augmente en avril son taux d’occupation de 7,4 points pourcentage, à 82,1%
SkyEurope Airlines a transporté un total de 293.688 passagers en avril 2007, soit une hausse de 44,7% par rapport au même mois de l’année dernière. SkyEurope note de plus une hausse record de son taux d’occupation de 7,4 points pourcentage, pour atteindre 82,1%.
Pour les 12 mois s’achevant fin avril 22007, la compagnie a transporté 3 millions de passagers, une hausse de 45,1% vis-à-vis de la même période 2006. Le taux d’occupation de ces 12 derniers mois a augmenté de 3,4 points pourcentage, à 80,4%.

Air Transport Association Applauds Alternative Fuels Legislation
WASHINGTON, May 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Transport Association (ATA), the trade association for the leading U.S. airlines, today issued the following statement applauding the coal-to-liquids legislation introduced by Reps. Boucher and Shimkus.
"The airlines strongly support the development of alternatives to traditional petroleum-based jet fuel and applaud the legislation introduced today by Reps. Boucher and Shimkus, which promotes the development of coal-to- liquids technology," said ATA President and CEO James C. May. "Alternative fuels have the potential to bring significant economic, operational and environmental benefits to the airlines, as well as energy security for the country.
"With 19 to 20 billion gallons of jet fuel consumed per year, fuel now tops expenses paid by airlines. In 2006 alone, U.S. airlines spent more than $38 billion on jet fuel," May said. "While airlines improved fuel efficiency by 35 percent in the past six years, the unrelenting rise in these fuel prices and an unstable global fuel supply source necessitate efforts to find alternative jet fuels."

Emirates Airlines reaffirms commitment to A380 and orders additional four
7 May 2007 -- Dubai based Emirates Airlines has reaffirmed its order for 43 Airbus A380 aircraft and additionally signed a contract for a further four. Emirates will begin receiving its first A380 aircraft in the third quarter of 2008.
Emirates was a launch customers for the A380 and already had the largest number of aircraft on order which has now been increased to 47.

TAM Has Record International Market Share of 69.7%
SAO PAULO, Brazil, May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TAM S.A. announces operating data for April 2007, as disclosed by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) today.
According to ANAC, TAM registered 37.1% growth in domestic RPK (demand) compared to the same period last year, and 31.7% increase in domestic ASK (supply). In April, market demand increased 20.3% and market supply increased 19.2%. TAM registered domestic market share (RPK) of 50.7%, a 6.2 p.p. increase compared to the same period in 2006. TAM's domestic load factor was 76.2%, 3.2 p.p. higher than the market average 73.0%.
In the international market, TAM registered 100.5% growth in RPK and 120.6% in ASK, compared to April 2006. The company reached market share of 69.7%, representing 44.5 p.p. growth year on year. TAM reached 71.1% load factor, 6.2 p.p. higher than the market average of 64.9%.

Swissport International Expands To Bulgaria

Tourism Office in Moscow to Attract Russian Tourists to Bulgaria
Bulgaria will open its first national tourism office in Russia’s capital Moscow, as part of the agreement between the countries for tourism co-operation. Russia’s State Agency for Tourism will render its full assistance for the creation of the office, Focus news agency reported.
The office will present the Russians the opportunities for year-round tourism in Bulgaria in an attempt to attract more Russian tourists to the country.
The heads of Bulgaria and Russia’s agencies for tourism signed the agreement during a working visit by Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev to Russia from May 6 to May 8 2007. They agreed to exchange tourism legislation information, statistics and to co-operate in the promotion of both countries.
Nearly 216 000 Russian tourists visited Bulgaria in 2006, registering an increase of 23.12 per cent as compared to the figures for 2005. Still, the number is low having in mind Russia’s enormous human resource.

Mekong NTOs Seek 'Responsible' Businesses
Three PATA member national tourism organisations are working with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mekong Tourism Development Project (MTDP) to produce a Responsible Tourism Guidebook for their respective destinations -- Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam. The guide will feature socially responsible businesses and eco-friendly and community-based projects, activities and attractions.
The MTDP and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) are soliciting potential candidates for inclusion in the Vietnam section of the book. To be eligible for inclusion, a business, service, project, activity or attraction must meet at least half the MTDP criteria. A questionnaire must be filled out by potential candidates and returned no later than May 31.
The Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia and the Lao National Tourism Administration (LNTA) are also involved in the guidebook, which will be launched at the Lao Ecotourism Forum, July 26-29, in Vientiane, Lao.

Met Nederlandse, Italiaanse en Duitse kunstenaars zoals Verrocchio, Hendrik de Keyser, Giambologna en Adriaen de Vries krijgt het Bonnefantenmuseum het beste van drie eeuwen Europese bronssculptuur binnen haar muren en was vorig jaar te zien in Londen en Wenen. Onder de topstukken van de tentoonstelling zijn een bronzen kandelaar gemaakt voor het Palazzo Vecchio in Firenze, Bourgondische beelden van het praalgraf van Isabella van Bourbon en vier bronzen waterspuwers uit omstreeks 1600 in de vorm van griffioenen die mogelijk afkomstig zijn uit de pauselijke tuinen. Verder veel mytohologische en heroïsche figuren maar ook decoratieve- en gebruiksvoorwerpen zoals een parfumbrander en een deurklopper. De blikvanger van de tentoonstelling wordt gevormd door de meer dan manshoge Mercurius en Psyche naar Adriaen de Vries. Op monitoren zal te zien zijn hoe de nieuwste onderzoeksmethoden voor bronssculptuur, de zogenaamde neutronenradiografie, in de praktijk worden toegepast.

Las Vegas Springs Preserve opens near the Las Vegas Strip
Nature meets neon at the new Las Vegas Springs Preserve just minutes from the glitzy Strip. Sustainability and eco-friendly technology are the stars of the show at this Southern Nevada attraction where visitors can explore the geological and biological history of the Las Vegas Valley and Mojave Desert. Exhibits in the “Origen Experience” include stories of the diverse groups of people who have lived in the Las Vegas Springs over the years, live animals that make the springs their home and an engaging youth area devoted to teaching children how to positively impact the environment.
The preserve also features a Desert Living Center, which boasts the first “Platinum Leed” (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) buildings in Nevada. Bulgarian Company Glavbolgarstroy to invest 30 mln euro in holiday developments
Glavbolgarstroy (GBS), one of Bulgaria's biggest construction companies, said it has budgeted some 30 mln euro for investment in holiday villages and tourist facilities over the next 3 years.

Bulgaria welcomes influx of Romanian tourists
Some 17,7000 Romanian tourists descended on the Bulgarian Black Sea resorts during the recent extended Labor Day holidays, shows data of the Romanian border authorities. The holiday rush brings the total number of Romanian arrivals to 40,000 for the past 3-4 weeks. According to Romanian news agency Rompress, the appeal of the Bulgarian resort destinations lies in the good value for money that they offer. The Romanian national association of travel agents estimates that Romanian tourists paid 110-120 euro per person for a 4-day package.

Expect US$110 billion Injection by 2009: PATA
Eighteen Asia Pacific destinations are expected to receive more than US$110 billion in additional tourism revenue over the next three years, according to a report just released by PATA -- Asia Pacific Tourism Forecasts 2007-2009.
Thailand will be one of the biggest beneficiaries, gaining almost US$13 billion by 2009. Other markets likely to receive strong receipts growth over the forecast period include Malaysia, with close to US$11 billion; Korea (ROK) with US$7 billion; China (PRC) with US$36 billion; and Macau SAR with US$5 billion.
The predicted windfall for Thailand follows on from the results of the recent Asia Travel Intentions Survey 2007 which revealed that 9% more travellers were looking at Asia as their next travel destination, with one in five ranking Thailand as their most likely destination.

Tour Operator In Bulgaria Increase Charter Flights to Turkey
Bulgarian tour operators expect that many Bulgarian tourists will prefer to spend their summer holidays along the Turkish Black Sea coast rather than at Bulgaria’s summer resorts.
Increased interest in Turkish resorts is being attributed to competitive packages on offer, and holiday opportunities outside the July-August season, Dnevnik daily reported.
To boost flight bookings for Turkey, tour operators have decided to increase the number of flights.
Alpha Tours manager Grisha Kostov said that 12 000 to 13 000 Bulgarian tourists were expected to visit Turkish resorts in 2007. Another factor was that most hotels in Bulgarian resorts are occupied in July and August.
The companies will offer charter flights from May to September.
The most sought-after destinations are Marmaris, Antalya and Bodrum.
According to the Turkish statistical institute, revenue from tourism increased by eight per cent in the first quarter of 2007. The country generated $2.16 billion, of which $1.5 billion was from foreign tourists.

Het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden presenteert de familietentoonstelling “Asterix en de Romeinen”. In een spannend decor met levensgrote scènes uit de strip kan jong en oud kennis maken met de Gallo-Romeinse samenleving van 2000 jaar geleden. De museumwinkel biedt een Asterix-assortiment en in de Archeotheek is een Asterix-kleur- en leeshoek ingericht.

Les Journées de la Rose
les 8, 9 et 10 juin 2007 à l'abbaye royale de Chaalis, près de Senlis
De enige strandmarathon ter wereld, die op 1 juli a.s. weer langs een deel van de Deense westkust wordt gehouden, staat ook open voor actievelingen die houden van Nordic Walking. Het gaat om de Noordzee Marathon, die dit jaar wordt gelopen tussen Vejers Strand en Hvide Sande in West-Jutland.
Het evenement is geschikt voor het hele gezin doordat er een groot aantal categorieën zijn. Er kunnen topsporters aan deelnemen, maar ook mindere goden, die kiezen voor kortere afstanden. Ook liefhebbers van Nordic Walking zijn welkom. Rondom het evenement worden tal van andere activiteiten georganiseerd. Er is live muziek en er zijn speelmogelijkheden voor kinderen.
