Air Berlin Growth Stable: Company Positions Itself More and More as a European Airline
BERLIN, Germany, January 11 -- With 13.5 million passengers in 2005, Air Berlin has assured its position as the second biggest German airline after Lufthansa. In comparison to 2004, this represents an increase of 12.45%. Flight sales increased in 2005 by 17.1% reaching EUR1.23 billion. "Despite high oil prices, we not only achieved our growth targets, but also provided a positive result for our shareholders", explained managing director and shareholder Joachim Hunold last Tuesday in Berlin. MUMBAI, India, Jan. 11, 2006 -- At a signing ceremony held today at Air India's headquarters, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Alan Mulally and Air India Chairman and Managing Director V.
Thulasidas formally announced an order agreement for 68 airplanes. The order, placed with Boeing in December 2005, is valued at more than $11 billion at list prices and deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2006.

easyJet Calls For Immediate Review Of EU Compensation Rules For Air Passengers
10 Jan 06 -- easyJet, Europes leading low-fares airline, called on the European Commission to review new EU rules for air passenger compensation following todays ruling in the European Court of Justice. The new EU rules were introduced last year in order to deter airlines from the odious practice of overbooking and making commercial cancellations. Read more.
Austrians flights to Erbil in Northern Iraq will be the first offered by any European carrier to the country. Commencing 9 March 2006 the flights will initially operate twice a week (Thursday & Sunday) increasing to three per week from 6 April 2006 (+Tuesday). The service will be operated using an Airbus 319 and will depart Vienna 20.15 arriving Erbil 06.00 the following day. The flight connects with OS462 from London.

The total number of passengers traveling on JAL Group international passenger routes was down 5.1% on the same vacation period last year. SEATTLE, Jan. 9, 2006 - Boeing and Tokyo-based Japan Airlines International Co., Ltd. (JAL) today announced that JAL is increasing the number of 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighters it has on order to eight, with an additional four options.
JAL first ordered the 747-400 BCF in October 2004, signing up for three firm modifications and four options. With today's announcement, the four options became firm orders and JAL also added one more firm order and four more options. The value of the order agreement will not be released.
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia will from February 6th commence flights to Ipoh, Tawau, Kota Bharu and Sandakan from its hub at Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru. The airline will operate 4 services per week to Ipoh and Tawau (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) and 3 flights per week to Kota Bharu and Sandakan (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday). AirAsia is also increasing flights to some present destinations; from Johor to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Penang. The carrier will operate 10 flights per week to Kuching, 11 flights per week to Kota Kinabalu, and 10 flights per week to Penang.
Singapore Airlines Adds More Flights For Lunar New year
SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines is boosting flights to certain Asian destinations to meet higher demand over the Lunar New Year period between January 21st and February 6th. There will be five more flights between Singapore and Taipei while more than 3,000 extra seats will be available between Singapore and Penang with 10 additional services from January 24th to February 7th. The carrier will operate a supplementary flight to Kuala Lumpur on the 26th and 27th of January, if there is enough demand.

AVIAREPS saves airlines high amounts with BSP
January 9, 2006 -- AVIAREPS offers airlines to save them high costs when entering the BSP accounting system. The airline representative is one of only three companies worldwide possessing a licence for IBCS (IATA BSP Consolidator System) which was developed by IATA. With this product even the entrance in secondary markets pays as costs are much more inexpensive than under classical conditions. The Austrian Airlines Group will become the first European airline to be granted the right to operate scheduled services into Iraq in the near future. Preparations are now well underway to fly to the city of Erbil in Northern Iraq from 9 March 2006. The service will operate twice a week during March and April, and three times a week from May onwards. The Austrian Airlines Group will fly its scheduled route to Erbil using an Airbus A319.

Today, Air France was named Best Trans-Atlantic Airline by the readers of Global Traveler Magazine through an annual survey conducted in 2005. Over 4,839 readers, made up largely of business and luxury travelers, participated in the survey, which may be found in its entirety in the January 2006 issue. Readers also named the SkyTeam alliance, of which Air France is a founding member, as the Best Alliance. The award will be presented at a ceremony and luncheon on January 17, 2006 in New York City, and accepted by Mr. Marie-Joseph Malé, Air France Vice President and General Manager, U.S.A.
SEATTLE, Jan. 5, 2006 - The Boeing Company recorded 1,002 net commercial airplane orders during 2005, setting a new Boeing record for total orders in a single year.
The 2005 total surpasses the previous Boeing record of 877 net orders in 1988, which includes both Boeing and then-McDonnell Douglas totals; the companies merged in 1997. Boeing posted 272 net orders for commercial airplanes in 2004. Gross orders in 2005, which exclude cancellations and conversions, totaled 1,029.
EAGAN, Minn. -- (January 5, 2006) -- Northwest Airlines today announced a systemwide December load factor of 80.7 percent, 2.5 points above December 2004. Northwest flew 5.82 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) and 7.21 billion available seat miles (ASMs) in December 2005, a traffic decrease of 5.7 percent and a capacity decrease of 8.6 percent versus December 2004.

Visitors arriving to Nepal by air in December 2005 increased by 14.2% compared to the same month of 2004. This was stated in the figures released today by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation quoting Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport. Arrivals from India and the third countries both increased by 30% and 9.9% respectively. A total of 27,511 visitors came to Nepal during the month.
Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, has announced a "moderate" foreign tourist arrival target of 5.5 million for 2006. That total, projected to generate US$5 billion in foreign exchange earnings, would represent a 7.8% improvement over 2005 arrivals expected to end the year at 5.1 million.
In explaining the 2006 target to the press, Minister Wacik labeled 5.5 million as a moderate target indicating that an optimistic scenario could see 6 foreign million visitors pay a call on Indonesia during 2006.

New Accor Managed International Convention Centre Opens In Hyderaba
HYDERABAD - Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) has officially opened under Accor management. HICC offers convention and event organisers 291,000 square feet of primary meeting space with a capacity to seat 5,000 delegates. The purpose-built convention facility also offers 250,000 square feet of pre-function areas supported by 32 break out rooms. This can be raised to 6,500 delegates for special events. The adjoining Novotel Hyderabad, slated to open in March 2006, is the first new-built Novotel for Accor in India.

TUI AG has reached an agreement to sell its business travel activities, operating within its wholly owned subsidiary of TQ3 Travel Solutions Management Holding GmbH, to the Dutch BCD Holdings N.V. It was agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The sale has yet to be approved by the TUI supervisory board and is also subject to necessary approvals by anti-trust authorities. The business travel market is currently going through a process of global consolidation. This provides TUI with the opportunity of placing this division, which does not belong to its tourism core business, within a future-oriented business travel management company. Promising international prospects will be opened up for the company as well as staff by the purchaser BCD Holdings N.V. Finalisation of the deal is expected in the first quarter of 2006.
Simultaneously, TQ3 and Navigant have agreed to cancel their joint venture with effect from 03 January 2006.
