HOUSTON, Feb. 14, 2007 - Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) will distribute $111 million in profit sharing to employees today on Valentine's Day.
When we work together, we win together, and my co-workers are sharing Continental's success through profit sharing, Continental Chairman and CEO Larry Kellner said. We all worked together in 2006 to deliver solid financial and operational results, and my co-workers will now receive $111 million in cash as a result of the best profit sharing program in the industry.
The carrier recorded net income of $343 million in 2006. This marks the first Continental profit sharing payment since the payment for the 2000 results. The $111 million distribution is both the highest of any U.S. carrier this year and the highest profit sharing distribution in Continental's history.

TAM is Leader in the Domestic Market with 47.2% Share

SAO PAULO, Brazil, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TAM S.A. announces operating data for January 2007, as disclosed by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) today.
According to ANAC, TAM registered an 18.8% growth in domestic RPK (demand) compared to the same period last year, and a 23.1% increase in domestic ASK (supply). In January, market demand increased by 12.5% and market supply increased by 13.3%. TAM registered a domestic market share (RPK) of 47.2%, 2.5 p.p. growth compared to the same period in 2006. TAM´s domestic load factor was 74.1%, higher than the 73.9% market average.
In the international market, TAM registered 57.6% growth in RPK and 72.0% in ASK, compared to January 2006. The company reached a market share of 58.7%, representing 36.5 p.p. growth year-on-year. TAM reached 74.5% load factor, higher than the market average 71.7%.
JAL International Passenger Fare Fuel Surcharges Cut Further
Tokyo, February 13, 2007: Today the JAL Group requested approval from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT), to reduce the fuel surcharge placed on nearly all international passenger tickets issued on or after April 1, 2007.
After an assessment of the outlook for the fuel market, and as a result of increases in IATA international fares effective April 1 2007, JAL has decided to lower the fuel surcharge from April 1 as follows. Based on ticket sales in Japan, the new surcharges range from 1,700 yen on a Japan - Korea ticket (down from 1,800 yen) to 15,500 yen on a Japan- Brazil ticket (down from 16,500). The surcharge on a Japan-Europe ticket or a Japan- North America ticket will be 12,000 yen, down from 13,000 yen.
This is the second fuel surcharge reduction this year. JAL reduced the fuel surcharge placed on all international passenger tickets issued on or after January 1st, 2007. This was made possible by the fact that the price of Singapore kerosene stayed below the benchmark of US$80.00 per barrel for 30 consecutive working days.
JAL to Increase Flight Frequency on Tokyo - Hanoi Route
Tokyo, February 8 2007: JAL has decided to increase the number of flights it operates on the Tokyo (Narita) - Hanoi route from 2 to 3 flights per week from March 25, 2007.
Up to now JAL has operated out of Tokyo (Narita) to Hanoi on Monday and Friday. The new JAL operation is on Wednesday.
The increase enables JAL to offer a daily non-stop service from Tokyo (Narita) to Hanoi, when including JAL's code share flights operated by Vietnam Airlines.

Cargo B Airlines the new Belgian 747 cargo airline at Brussels Airport.
Brussels Airport, 8 February 2007 - Today the launch is announced of Cargo B Airlines, a completely new all cargo airline which plans to operate from the Belgian capital full cargo daytime flights serving major markets around the world such as the Middle and Far East, Africa and South America. Subject to the usual government formalities, the operational start-up with two leased B747 freighter aircraft is planned for October 2007. One of the aircraft will commence operations in October, with the second aircraft partly on standby during the three month start-up period. The introduction of a third freighter aircraft is scheduled for April 2008. The strategy will be to phase out these aircraft as from 2010 and replace them with newer, more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly equipment. The two first aircraft have already been purchased by 3P Air Freighters Ltd, a company set up specifically for investment in aircraft and controlled by the well known Belgian investment bank, Petercam SA.
Cargo B Airlines aims to operate under a Belgian Aircraft Operating Certificate and will employ mostly Belgian nationals.
The three founders of the new airline are: the Chief Executive Officer Robert Kuijpers, who has had many years industry experience, previously Executive Chairman of SN Brussels Airlines and prior to that CEO of DHL Worldwide Express.
Captain Arno Broes who has held several senior management positions in the airline industry takes the position of Executive VP Operations. Niek Van Der Weide, with a successful track record in airline cargo sales, will be the Executive VP Sales and Marketing. A recruitment campaign is in progress to fill other key positions, ready for the October start up.

From 24th February 2007, Solomon Airlines will introduce direct scheduled services between the Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands and Nadi, the main airport of Fiji. The flights will operate on Wednesdays from Honiara to Nadi and from Nadi to Honiara on Sundays. The route is also operated on Thursday and Saturday where the flight stops en route in Santo (Vanuatu).
The flights are all flown on a Boeing 727-300 aircraft (registration EC-JSL) which is on long term damp lease from the Spanish charter carrier Air Class.

The growing popularity of cruise holidays and European ship yards' dominance of global cruise ship orders is set to have a major impact on jobs, wealth creation and inbound tourism in Europe, according to the results of a groundbreaking European Cruise Contribution report released at a major conference in Brussels today (6 February).
This is the first time that figures have been available to demonstrate the full economic value and scale of the total cruise industry in Europe, said Mr Pier Luigi Foschi, chairman of the European Cruise Council (ECC) and chairman and chief executive officer of Costa Crociere SpA. MIAMI - Carnival Corporation & plc, the largest cruise vacation company in the world, and Orizonia Corporación, Spain's largest travel company which operates its own cruise fleet under its Iberojet division, today announced the signing of a letter of intent to form a joint venture to operate and expand the existing Iberojet Cruceros brand in Spain.
Iberojet Cruceros operates two modern cruise ships, the 834-passenger Grand Voyager, built in 2000, and the 1,196-passenger Grand Mistral, constructed in 1999, which represent the newest ships in the contemporary Spanish cruise market. The new joint venture would eventually be comprised of a multi-ship fleet serving the rapidly expanding Spanish vacation sector.
Under the proposed agreement, the two existing vessels would be transferred to the joint venture company. The intention is to grow that fleet over the next several years through the acquisition of existing tonnage from Carnival Corporation & plc's current fleet.

La Slovénie vient d'ouvrir officiellement un office du tourisme (www.slovenia.info) à Bruxelles. Situé dans les locaux de la Maison de Slovénie (http://www.slovenianhouse.com/slo/page_1eng_1.htm), chaussée de Wavre 402 à 1040 Bruxelles (à quelques pas de la place Jourdan et à proximité du quartier européen) l'Office du Tourisme de Slovénie a été inauguré officiellement le 13 février 2007.

Global Visitors to Egypt Up 5.5% in 2006 to 9 Million

NEW YORK, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The number of Americans traveling to Egypt in 2006 soared to 228,165, a 16% increase over 195,800 visitors in 2005. Globally, Egypt succeeded in attracting 9,082,000 visitors in 2006, a 5.5% increase over the 8.7 million visitors of the previous year. These are strong results given that the global growth rate for tourism worldwide is 4.5%, according to the World Trade Organization.
In country by country rankings, the USA finished 6th in terms of number of visitors, making it the highest ranked non-European country. Topping the chart was England, which broke the one million mark with 1,033,000 visitors. Russia held its second-place spot for the second year in a row, with 998,000 visitors to Egypt in 2006. At third place is Germany with 966,000 visitors, a slight 1.4% decrease from last year when it held the top spot. Italy ranked fourth, the same as last year, with 786,000. Others ranked in the top ten include France, with 372,000.
Chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, Ahmed El Khadem, stated: "Egypt has always been a powerful draw for visitors, with numbers increasing year after year. I am therefore pleased to see that world travelers continue to recognize the many diverse and beautiful treasures that can be found in Egypt. Accor Sells 30 Hotel Properties in the United Kingdom for EUR711 Million and Signs a Development Partnership With Land Securities
PARIS, February 12 -- As part of its asset management strategy, Accor said today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding to sell 30 hotel properties (5,000 Ibis and Novotel rooms) in the United Kingdom to Land Securities for EUR711 million.
Accor will continue to operate the hotels under 12-year variable leases, whose rents are based on an average 21% of annual revenues with no guaranteed minimum. The leases are renewable six times, for a total of 84 years (the variable rent for 2006 would have amounted to EUR41 million). Expenses related to the real estate and hotel building - structural maintenance capex and insurance costs - will henceforth be borne by the new owner. Finally, the agreement includes a EUR53 million renovation program financed by the owner.
The transaction enables Accor to partner with a leading UK property company. Land Securities is a FTSE 100 company with a market value of more than EUR15 billion, which owns property assets in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In addition, the agreement signed today calls for the creation of a long-term development partnership that will enable Accor to step up its expansion program in the United Kingdom.
IBIS Adds Wuxi To Its Growing China Hotel Network

BANGKOK, 9 February 2007 Accors leading economy brand Ibis continues its rapid expansion in China with the opening of Ibis Wuxi this week in Wuxi, a key regional business centre only two hours drive north of Shanghai.

Hiernaast is Amadeus ook continu op zoek naar mogelijkheden om de kwaliteit van het onderwijs voor de reisindustrie te verbeteren.
Daarom heeft Amadeus nu een overeenkomst gesloten om de eerste Masters opleiding in Toerisme te ondersteunen die zijn zetel heeft aan de K.U.Leuven. Deze opleiding, die in totaal anderhalf academiejaar in beslag neemt, bereid studenten voor op midden- en hogere kaderfuncties binnen de toeristische sector. Het engagement van Amadeus steunt het Urbain Claeysfonds dat als doel heeft de academische en professionele benadering van de opleiding te waarborgen alsmede de internationalisering te bewerkstelligen.
De initiatiefnemers voor de Masters in Toerisme opleiding zijn de universiteiten van Leuven, Gent en Brussel alsmede de Hoge Scholen in Anderlecht, Brugge, Antwerpen, Hasselt, Kortrijk en Mechelen.

Essen, Germany, February 12, 2007. The leading German retailer KarstadtQuelle AG is to merge its Tourism subsidiary, Thomas Cook, with the leading British travel company MyTravel. The newly established company will be named Thomas Cook Group plc and will be traded on the London Stock Exchange. KarstadtQuelle will hold 52 percent in the new company and will consolidate it fully. |
The MyTravel shareholders will hold 48 percent. KarstadtQuelles CEO will be the Chairman, whilst the Thomas Cook AG CEO will be Joint CEO of the new company and the Thomas Cook AG CFO will be CFO of the new company.
The merged company will achieve sales of approximately Euro 12 billion and will be a leader in Great Britain, Scandinavia and Canada with leading positions in continental Europe. It will be one of the largest travel groups in the world.
The merger is subject to the approval of the anti-trust authorities and the shareholders of My Travel plc as well as the final closing of the previously announced transaction with Lufthansa.

LOST: US$16.4 billion, FOUND: A Plan

Millions of people are choosing not to visit the US because they believe that foreigners are unwelcome, says the Discover America Partnership (DAP) in its groundbreaking A Blueprint to Discover America.
As a consequence, the US economy is missing out on US$16.4 billion in new expenditure, 189,000 new jobs and US$2.6 billion in federal, state and local tax revenues.
The DAP's Blueprint offers a US$300 million plan to fix the country's travel "crisis" through the following measures:-
Create a 21st century visa system
Modernise and secure ports of entry
Change perceptions through co-ordinated communications.
Presenting the Blueprint to the US Congress on January 31, Travel Industry Association of America (TIA) National Chair Mr Jay Rasulo said the plan was the single most important document in the US travel industry's history.
"Never have we had such a plan and never have we been in such need of one," said Mr Rasulo, who is also Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
The DAP, an effort to help policymakers appreciate travel's diplomatic, security and economic potential, is chaired by InterContinental Hotels Group President Mr Stevan C. Porter.
The Partnership brings together America's foremost business leaders, including PATA members InterContinental Hotels Group, Marriott International, TIA, and Hong Kong Disneyland's parent company Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

ETC Director Rob Franklin wins ETP European Gold Star Tourism Award
Brussels, 09 February 2007. The Executive Director of the European Travel Commission, Rob Franklin OBE, was today awarded the prestigious annual European Tourism Gold Star Award by the members of the European Travel Press (ETP).
At a ceremony conducted during the Salon de Vacances in Brussels, Mr. Salvador Alves Dias, President of the European Travel Press, presented the award to Mr. Franklin.
I am honored and delighted to receive this award from the members of the European Travel Press today, in recognition of the work that has been done by the European Travel Commission.
