Zonneskiën rond Innsbruck
Tot ver in het voorjaar kan er geskied worden onder een heerlijke voorjaars-zon in de hooggelegen skigebieden rond de Tiroler hoofdstad Innsbruck. In het op ruim 2000 m gelegen Kühtai en de Stubaier Gletscher met z'n ruim 3000 m en eeuwige sneeuw, liggen sneeuwzekere pisten tot in april. Nieuwe bergbanen en skiliften ontsluiten nog meer skiplezier
Skigebied Mutterer Alm, op slechts 5 km van de Tiroler hoofdstad Innsbruck, presen-teert zich dit winterseizoen in een geheel nieuw jasje. Het hart van dit nieuwe skiple-zier is de nieuwe gondelbaan met kabines voor acht personen, die de gasten van het dorpscentrum van Mutters naar het bergstation op een hoogte van 1600 m brengt. Daglicht in Oostenrijk!
Opgelet autobestuurders! Sinds 15 november 2005 geldt in Oostenrijk de algemene verplichting met „daglicht“ te rijden op de openbare weg, in het verkeer. Dit betekent concreet dat je ook overdag op ALLE wegen, niet enkel op snelwegen (!), je autoverlichting moet gebruiken. Deze verplichting geldt voor alle gemotoriseerde verkeersdeelnemers in Oostenrijk, zowel binnen- ALS buitenlanders. Concreet betekent dit dat je ofwel het dimlicht of het specifieke daglicht (“Daytime Running Lights”) moet gebruiken. Er geldt wél een periode van 'aanpassing' aan de nieuwe regeling en tot 15 april 2006 worden nog geen boetes opgelegd. Van dan af echter kost een boete die door een politieagent wordt geïnd 15 euro. Bij een klacht voor het gerecht dreigen tot 5.000 euro boete!

Japan Expects Inbound Growth on Release of 'Geisha'
The Japan National Tourist Organization (JNTO) expects interest in Japan to escalate in 2006, after the release of the film adaptation of Memoirs of a Geisha, the best-selling novel by Arthur Golden. The film is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago) and produced by Steven Spielberg. The cast includes stars such as Ziyi Zhang (Hero; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Ken Watanabe (Batman Begins; The Last Samurai) and Gong Li (Farewell My Concubine).

Stockholm’s grootste hotel in aanbouw 
Op 1 december is een begin gemaakt met de bouw van Stockholm´s grootste hotel, een initiatief van hotelketen Choice Hotels Scandinavia. Het gebouw, dat onder architectuur staat van Gert Wingårdh, maakt deel uit van een renovatieproject in de wijken rond Norra Ban torget. Hierdoor zal een nieuwe stadswijk ontstaan compleet met kantoren, flatgebouwen en groenstroken. Door zijn vernieuwende architectuur zal het hotel het middelpunt van de nieuwe wijk worden, meent de Noorse aannemer van het project. De opening van het hotel staat gepland voor 2008, het complete project zal echter pas in de loop van 2009 afgerond worden.

EK Atletiek 2006 in Gotenburg
Het grootste sportevenement in Zweden in 2006 is ongetwijfeld het Europees kampioenschap Atletiek, dat van 6 tot en met 13 augustus in Gotenburg zal worden gehouden. Voor de eerste keer in de geschiedenis vindt de officiële opening van dit wereldkampioenschap plaats buiten het stadion, namelijk in de historische binnenstad van de West-Zweedse havenstad.
De toegang tot dit openingsfeest is gratis. Voor de zeven dagen waarop in het Ullevi-stadion gestreden wordt om de medailles, moeten echter wel kaartjes worden gekocht. Er zijn verschillende soorten kaarten te bestellen.
Allereerst een  ´Full Track´, een soort passe-partout die geldig is gedurende 7 dagen en toegang biedt tot alle semi-finals en finals, waardoor je geen enkel nieuw record zult missen. In een ´Full Track´ ticket zitten eveneens 6 hotelovernachtingen op basis van een tweepersoonskamer. Een ´Full Track´ wordt aangeboden vanaf 440 euro. Daarnaast is ook het ´Spin´ ticket een goede optie: dit ticket biedt ongelimiteerde toegang tot het stadion van 7 -10 augustus. ZHONGSHAN - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and Zhongshan Garden Hotel Company Limited have formed an agreement whereby Starwood will manage the Sheraton Zhongshan Hotel in Zhongshan City in China's Guangdong province. The newly constructed 350 room hotel is due to open in January 2009, and is located 33 miles south of Guangzhou, some 75 minutes by ferry from Hong Kong and within a two-hour's drive from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Macau. The Sheraton Zhongshan Hotel will offer food and beverage outlets, a health club and spa and more than 15,000 square feet of meeting space, within easy reach of the CBD, government offices, and a shopping precinct.

ALIBAUG - Radisson Hotels & Resorts, together with M/. Sahil Spa & Resorts, will develop a new hotel in the Indian location of Alibaug, Maharashtra - the Radisson Resort & Spa Alibaug. The hotel, positioned on 22 acres of land along the banks of Veshvi Lake at Gondhalpada, 1.5 kilometres from Alibaug, will be managed by Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific, part of Carlson Hotels Worldwide, parent company for Radisson Hotels & Resorts. The hotel is slated to be opened by the end of this year, and will house 150 guest rooms, suites, villas and Ayurvedic pavilions.

Orient-Express Hotels Ltd., owners and operators of 49 deluxe leisure properties in 25 countries, today announced its latest acquisition, a 75% interest in Casa de Sierra Nevada, a 33 room boutique hotel in the colonial town of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for US$8.4 million. SANYA CITY - Mandarin Oriental will manage a resort being developed on the Chinese island of Hainan. The 292 room resort, five minutes drive from Sanya City and 20 kilometres from the city's international airport, is expected to open for business in the second half of this year. The Mandarin Oriental, Sanya will offer banquet and conference facilities with a 480 square metre grand ballroom that can contain up to 300 people, as well as five conference rooms.
