SAS krijgt een additionele vlucht naar New York die een perfecte connectie garandeert vanuit Brussel
Als reactie op de stijgende vraag naar betere en meer comfortabele verbindingen naar de Verenigde Staten, heeft SAS beslist een extra vlucht in te leggen. Vanaf 20 mei, wordt hiermee de frequentie tussen Kopenhagen en New York van 1 naar 2 rechtstreekse vluchten gebracht
De nieuwe frequentie zal vier keer per week (ma, do, vrij, za) opereren, tussen 20 mei en
31 augustus.
Door de additionele 6de vlucht vanuit Brussel naar Kopenhagen, wordt er een uitstekende connectie geboden met deze avondvlucht naar New York.
SAS passagiers hebben met dit product, de nieuwe configuratie van de Airbus 340, een echt luxe-product getroffen. De A340 is recentelijk volledig gerenoveerd met nieuwe SAS Business Sleepers in de volledige business class.
Blue1: plus de fréquences sur BRU
Grâce au succès du vol Blue1 entre Bruxelles et Helsinki, Blue1 a décidé d'ajouter un troisième vol direct sur cette destination. A partir du 26 mars, Blue1 opérera trois fois par semaine la liaison entre Bruxelles et la capitale finlandaise.
Les vols seront opérés le mardi, le jeudi et le dimanche. BRU-HEL: le mardi et le jeudi (11.55-15.30, MD90), le dimanche (21.05-00.40, AR8). HEL-BRU: le mardi et le jeudi (départ 09.30-11.15, MD90), le dimanche (18.50-20.35, AR8). En 2006, Blue1 a lancé 11 nouvelles destinations en Europe, dont Bruxelles.
Jusqu'ici, la liaison entre Bruxelles et Helsinki était opérée le vendredi et le dimanche. Vu la popularité du vol, il a à présent été décidé d'y ajouter une rotation supplémentaire.
Le troisième vol complétera parfaitement les liaisons directes existantes ainsi que les excellentes connexions offertes via Copenhague et Stockholm
Expansion SAS
A partir du 26 mars 2007, SAS offrira 50% plus de sièges sur un de ses vols de Luxembourg à Copenhague. En date du1er septembre 2006, SAS avait déjà augmenté le nombre de fréquences de 2 à 3 vols journaliers.

JAL to Introduce Domestic First Class for the First Time & Introduce New International JAL Premium Economy in FY2007
Tokyo, January 17 2007: Japan Airlines will introduce new service improvements including a first-time ever first class service on domestic flights, and a new international service class, “JAL Premium Economy” in FY2007 (the fiscal year from April 1st 2007 to March 31st 2008).
Additionally, JAL is planning to improve in-flight meal quality and to introduce new seats in all present international passenger classes, First, Executive (business class) and Economy class in FY2008.

New joint airline TUIfly with record number of passengers in 2006 / HLX
Passenger figure rose by 22 percent in 2006
Hapag-Lloyd Express (HLX), the low-cost carrier in the TUI Group, can look back on an extremely successful year 2006. The airline, which has merged with its sister company Hapagfly and now operates under the new airline brand TUIfly, increased its passenger figures by 22 percent, carrying a total of 4.4 million passengers on its fleet of 18 aircraft in 2006. The total passenger figure for both TUI airlines in 2006 reached the figure of 11.1 million.
Hapagfly, which reduced its fleet by two aircraft last year and therefore offered fewer seats in the market, accounted for 6.7 million of the total figure. With seat load factors of 88 percent (Hapagfly) and 80 percent (HLX), both companies again booked record figures.
British Airways - Longhaul Fuel Surcharge reduced On Many Routes
British Airways is to reduce its fuel surcharge on its shorter longhaul routes from Friday January 12, 2007 as a result of a fall in the price of oil.
As a result, the fuel surcharge on tickets sold in Belgium and Luxembourg for longhaul flights scheduled at under nine hours in duration will be reduced from EUR 45 per sector to EUR 37 per sector (EUR 74 return trip).
The fuel surcharge on longer-range services, will remain at EUR 45 per sector (EUR 90 return trip) to reflect the higher fuel consumption on these flights.
The shorthaul fuel surcharge will remain unchanged at EUR 12 per sector (EUR24 a return trip).
The reduced fuel surcharge on certain longhaul flights will apply to tickets issued from Friday January 12, 2007.
British Airways will also reduce its fuel surcharges by equivalent levels in all markets.

A bottle of Italian prosecco was smashed against the 90,000-ton ship’s hull while two coins - a Euro (symbolising the fact that the ship is being built in Italy) and a gold Queen Victoria sovereign - were welded beneath the mast for good luck.
The second largest Cunarder ever built, Queen Victoria will make her maiden cruise from the UK in December this year before embarking on a world voyage that will see her become the youngest liner ever to visit Australia in February 2008.

700 jaren stadrechten in Halmstad

De West Zweedse stad Halmstad viert in 2007 haar 700ste verjaardag – en dat het hele jaar door. De festiviteiten werden al op oudejaarsdag 2006 met een groot vuurwerk ingeluid en worden elke maand tot eind 2007 met een bijzonder evenement vervolgd. De highlights zijn drie grote evenementen.

Zo start op 31 mei – de dag waarop de oudste privilège-brieven van de stad uit het jaar 1307 gedateerd zijn – een vier dagen durend volksfeest: op twaalf locaties langs de rivier de Nissan wordt bezoekers een groot aanbod van culturele en culinaire belevenissen en activiteiten aangeboden. Iedere locatie belicht daarbij een eigen deel van de 700 jarige stadgeschiedenis.
Van 19 tot 22 juli 2007 volgt het Halmstad Marinefestival, waarbij ook de Regatta Baltic Sail hoort. Het derde evenement is de Solheim Cup, wereldwijd de meest prestigieuze teamwedstrijd voor vrouwelijke golfers, die in september 2007 in het bij Halmstad horende Tylösand gehouden wordt. Het golf toernooi wordt met verschillende festiviteiten omlijst.

175 jaar Göta Kanaal – van belangrijke transportweg tot toeristen attractie

175 jaar geleden – op 26 september 1832 – werd het Göta Kanaal feestelijk ingewijd in het dorpje Mem. Tot op heden is het kanaal één van de grootste Zweedse bouwprojecten: met een lengte van 190 km en 58 sluizen voert het kanaal van Sjötorp, bij het Vänern meer, tot de Oostzee bij Slätbaken vlak bij het dorpje Mem. Van dit traject moest uiteindelijk 87 km worden uitgegraven. De eerste spade werd in mei 1810 in de grond gezet. In totaal heeft de voltooiing van het kanaal meer dan 22 jaar geduurd.

Verantwoordelijke van dit project was Baltzar von Platen, die het belang inzag van een transportweg voor goederen tussen de Oostzee en het Kattegat. Het kanaal had in de 19e eeuw een zeer belangrijke functie als transportverbinding, maar kreeg in de 20ste eeuw te maken met concurrentie van de spoorwegen en het vrachtverkeer. Hierdoor wijzigde de functie van de waterweg langzaam maar zeker. Vandaag de dag is het kanaal één van de best bezochte en bekendste toeristenattracties van Zweden. In 2007 wordt het jubileum uitbundig gevierd langs het kanaal. Highlights zijn de jubileumfeesten in Motala (20-22.07), in Karlsborg (27-29.07), in Söderköping (25-26.08) en in Norsholm (18.08). In Sjötorp gaat het feest al op 28 juni met veel pracht en praal van start. Ook op andere plaatsen worden talrijke culturele evenementen en activiteiten georganiseerd. Investments in Serbia
Serbia is concentrating its efforts becoming a new tourist destination with a master plan for the period through 2015. Fifty million euro are to be invested into developing river infrastructure, in particular through the international Integrated Borderline Management project. Serbia currently has over 222 hotels, including many new four and five-star establishments. Guest numbers have increased no less than 174%, from 165,398 in 2000 to 452,679 in 2005. The National Tourist Organization of Serbia produces a steady stream of informational material to help promote the country as a tourist destination.

Grootste hotel van Denemarken komt in Kopenhagen
De Deense hotelgroep Cabinn A/S bouwt in het nieuwe Kopenhaagse stadsdeel Ørestad het grootste hotel van het land. Het ontwerp is van de bekende in Polen geboren Amerikaanse architect Daniel Libeskind., die onder meer naam heeft gemaakt met de schepping van het joods Museum in Berlijn. Het hotel in Kopenhagen, dat vlakbij het expositiecentrum Bella Center verrijst, krijgt 700 kamers en zal in de loop van 2008 in gebruik worden genomen. Het komt ook dicht bij de internationale luchthaven van de Deense hoofdstad.

Billund krijgt Noord-Europa’s grootste vakantiecentrum
Bij Billund op het Deense schiereiland Jutland ontstaat momenteel het grootste vakantiecentrum van Noord-Europa. Het gaat 1.500 comfortabele vakantiehuizen en een subtropisch zwemcomplex met een oppervlakte van 40.000 vierkante meter omvatten.
Het nieuwe megacentrum komt in de directe omgeving van het populaire familiepark Legoland, dat jaarlijks rond 1.5 miljoen bezoekers trekt.
Het nieuwe project kost omgerekend rond 270 miljoen Euro. De investeerders zijn de Deense firma’s Parken Sport & Entertainment A/S in Kopenhagen en Reka Gruppen A/S in Varde. De onderneming Parken Sport & Entertainment is onder meer eigenaar van het Parken-stadion in Kopenhagen, de voetbalclub FC Kopenhagen en het subtropische zwemcomplex/vakantiepark Lalandia in Rødby op het eiland Lolland. Het vakantiecentrum in Billund krijgt eveneens de naam Lalandia.

PATA's Top Five Winners for Second Quarter 2006
BANGKOK, January 18, 2007 -- Travel and tourism arrivals across the Asia Pacific region expanded 5.4% in the second quarter of 2006 compared to second quarter 2005, according to a Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) report.
