Continental Airlines announces first quarter net loss
HOUSTON, Apr. 20, 2006 -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) today reported a first quarter 2006 net loss of $66 million ($0.76 diluted loss per share), including a net loss from special items of $20 million. ZAVENTEM, 13 avril 2006- Le poids total que chaque voyageur peut emporter à bord d'un avion varie en fonction de la nature du ticket ou de la classe de réservation, mais aussi d'une compagnie aérienne à une autre. La plupart du temps il varie entre 20 et 30 kg. Si vous voulez plus de bagage à bord, il vous faudra payer un excédent.
Quel que soit le nombre de pièces et le poids total de vos bagages, chacune des pièces ne peut peser plus de 32 kg. Qantas Favours Jetstar Brand over Australian Airlines
The Qantas Group took a major step in its two-brand strategy, with the April 12 announcement of Jetstar's proposed international route network from November 2006 (pending regulatory approval).
Qantas CEO Mr Geoff Dixon said as part of the strategy to focus on two strong brands, Qantas and Jetstar, the Australian Airlines brand would cease to exist from July 2006. Australian Airlines staff would operate services under the Qantas brand. (This is called a wet lease operation in the aviation industry.)
"From a customer perspective, these flights will be like all other Qantas international services. They will have Qantas flight numbers, aircraft will be branded in Qantas livery and crew in Qantas uniforms will provide Qantas inflight product," he said.
SAS mag vingerafdrukken nemen van passagiers
Vliegtuigmaatschappij SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) heeft toestemming gekregen van branchevereniging Datainspektionen om op binnenlandse vluchten vingerafdrukken te nemen van haar passagiers. De informatie zal gebruikt worden om te controleren of de persoon die in het vliegtuig zit, dezelfde is als degene die zijn of haar bagage inleverde bij het inchecken. De vingerafdrukken worden in een tijdelijke database bewaard en worden automatisch weer gewist wanneer het vliegtuig opstijgt.
Vanaf 1 mei worden veiligheidsmaatregelen voor luchtvaartmaatschappijen en vliegvelden in Zweden aangescherpt. Deze nieuwe maatregel van SAS is een onderdeel van de nieuwe procedure.
BIAC a décidé de rendre l'aéroport de Bruxelles entièrement non fumeurs. A partir d'aujourd'hui, il n'est plus permis de fumer dans les parties publiques des bâtiments aéroportuaires. Les restaurants, bars et lounges sont également non fumeurs.

Ashford Acquires Pan Pacific Hotel in San Francisco
DALLAS, April 19 -- Ashford Hospitality Trust, Inc. CUPERTINO, California --April 19, 2006 -- Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2006 second quarter ended April 1, 2006. The Company posted revenue of $4.36 billion and a net quarterly profit of $410 million, or $.47 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $3.24 billion and a net profit of $290 million, or $.34 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Un musée dédié à la beat generation
Un musée à la gloire de la Beat Generation vient d'ouvrir sur Grant Avenue dans le quartier de North Beach à San Francisco. Ce Beat Museum rassemble surtout des souvenirs de Jack Kerouac, auteur prolifique et porte parole du mouvement. C'est à Herb Caen, célèbre chroniqueur du San Francisco Chronicle, que l'on doit le terme de Beatnik dont il qualifia les groupies du mouvement Beat en 1956. Ces beatniks hantaient les cafés et les librairies de North Beach comme le Café Vesuvio ou le Café Trieste et l'incontournable librairie City Lights sur Columbus Avenue.

Le Parc de Mesa Verde celèbre son centenaire en 2006
Situé au Sud-Ouest du Colorado, le Parc National de Mesa Verde, classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, abrite environ 4 000 sites archéologiques dont 600 habitations troglodytes. Etabli en 1906, il fut le premier Parc National créé afin de préserver les vestiges de la civilisation des Indiens Anasazis qui vécurent dans cette région jusqu'au XIVème siècle. Mesa Verde célèbre donc ses 100 ans tout au long de l'année 2006 à travers de nombreux évènements et animations. En savoir plus.
