Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Doubles its Portfolio
Recently Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts took over a luxurious resort on Mauritius and now announces a total of five new projects in Dubai (UAE) as well as on the tropical island of Zanzibar (Tanzania), putting the Swiss international hotel chain well on course towards achieving its expansion objectives. The hotel group has been steadily expanding over the past five years, and very soon it will have more than doubled its capacity compared with 1999 (35 hotels and 7'400 rooms): indeed by the end of 2007 the portfolio will comprise a total of 73 hotels and more than 19'000 rooms. HOUSTON, Oct. 18, 2005 -- Continental Airlines today reported third quarter 2005 net income of $61 million or $0.80 diluted earnings per share, including a $3 million net special charge. Excluding the net special charge, Continental recorded net income of $64 million ($0.83 diluted earnings per share) which compares favorably to the First Call mean estimate of $0.27 earnings per share.
Operating income of $109 million for the third quarter 2005 was an $87 million improvement over the third quarter 2004, primarily due to significant revenue improvements and savings from pay and benefit reductions.


MIAMI, Oct. 18 -- Celebrity Cruises received "celebrity treatment" last night in New York, where Conde Nast Traveler presented results of its coveted annual "Readers Choice Awards" to an elite group of finalists. BERLIN, October 18 -- Op 18 oktober landt de eerste Air Berlin-Airbus in Berlijn en is het voor het nieuwe toestel D-ABDA 'ready for take-off' om mee te gaan vliegen in het routenetwerk van Air Berlin. De A320 is het eerste van in totaal 70 bestelde vliegtuigen voor luchtvaartmaatschappij Air Berlin en haar Oostenrijkse alliantiepartner NIKI. De opdracht, waarmee rond 4,5 miljard euro gemoeid is, werd bijna een jaar geleden door de organisaties ondertekend. Voor nog eens 50 toestellen geldt een optie. Zowel bij de order als de optie zijn 10 toestellen voor NIKI bestemd.

MIAMI, Oct. 18 -- Royal Caribbean International is already making plans to bring Grandeur of the Seas back to the Port of New Orleans for her scheduled seven-night Western Caribbean sailings in December 2006. Until then, Grandeur of the Seas will sail from her new temporary home, the Port of Tampa, on a series of four- and five-night Western Caribbean itineraries from December 2005 through May 2006, before relocating to Baltimore for the summer season.

FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 18 -- American Airlines today announced it has received antitrust immunity from the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) for a partnership with LAN PERU. The immunity will permit a three-way alliance with American, LAN PERU and LAN AIRLINES (of Chile), allowing the airlines to coordinate marketing, schedules and other elements of their service. American had previously been granted antitrust immunity with LAN AIRLINES in 1999. Both Peru and Chile have Open Skies agreements with the United States.

Visa Celebrates One Million ATM Machines
Visa cardholders can now get cash and other services from one million Visa automated teller machines (ATMs) in more than 160 countries. In 2004, the number of Visa/PLUS ATM transactions surpassed one billion for the first time, representing more than US$87.5 billion in cash withdrawals. Between March 2004 and March 2005, the number of ATMs accepting foreign Visa cards in China (PRC) grew by 234% from 10,092 to 33,706 units, with coverage spanning from major cities to Tibet. Visa cardholders from around the world are projected to spend US$25 billion in China (PRC) over the next five years. First Renaissance Property Opens on Samui, Thailand
The Buriraya Resort in Koh Samui, Thailand has been rebranded Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa. Australia Releases New Domestic Tourism Data
Tourism Australia has announced that Tourism Research Australia has released Travel by Australians June Quarter 2005. The new research on domestic tourism trends shows that spending by domestic interstate overnight leisure tourists in 2004/05 performed comparatively well, with inflation equalling growth (2.5%). Abacus International has launched its "Blended Training Programme" for travel agents across Asia Pacific. The programme enables travel partners to save time and money through a learning experience tailored to their convenience and pace. Munich Airport has been selected as this year's winner of the Airport Marketing Award 2005 at Routes 2005 in Copenhagen. There were over 1,600 participants including 280 airlines and 600 airports from five continents. Singapore Airlines is launching a four-time weekly service to Hyderabad, India's fifth largest metropolis, beginning October 30, 2005. The service will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday using Boeing 777-200 and Boeing 777-300 aircraft. Also from October 30, Singapore Airlines will add two weekly flights with earlier arrival times on Friday and Sunday to Bangalore, bringing the number of flights to five. DOHA - Qatar Airways will begin flights to Madrid three times a week from December 2. All flights will operate into Madrid's Barajas International Airport via Rome. Qatar Airways will be offering members of its Privilege Club frequent flyer programme double Qmiles for the first month of the service.


DUBAI - Emirates has increased services and streamlined schedules to Asia. From October 1, Emirates has intensified services between Dubai and Hong Kong with two additional flights, and starting end-October, it will fly directly to Jakarta thrice every week, returning to Dubai via Singapore. Emirates will also add six more weekly services from Dubai to Singapore starting October 30, and from end-October, it will offer five weekly direct services to Kuala Lumpur. From early November, Emirates will add one more direct flight from Dubai to Bangkok, while in February 2006, the airline will launch daily services to Beijing.

SEOUL - Asiana Airlines said it will resume its flight service to the Thai resort of Phuket late this month. Asiana said it will fly a 200-seat B767 from Incheon International Airport on Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting Oct. 26. Asiana also said it will increase the number of flights to Singapore from the current five per day to seven.


TAIPEI - China Airlines (CAL) will launch a codeshare service with Deutsche Bahn AG (DB), Germany's national railway company, from October 30. The service will allow passengers flying between Taiwan and Germany to enjoy high-speed rail connections between Frankfurt Ariport and seven German cities, including Hamburg, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hanover, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart. Passengers using the codeshare service will only need to pay an extra NT$1,000 (US$30) for a single rail trip.

BRISBANE - Qantas has added a fifth non-stop service from Brisbane to Los Angeles, commencing January 28, 2006. Further changes to Qantas' US schedules included moving from eight flights a week on Melbourne-Los Angeles to a double-daily service - seven operating non-stop and seven via Auckland.


The upward trend that began at the Austrian Airlines Group back in May has continued to gather pace in September. The company's traffic result - measured in revenue passenger kilometers on scheduled services (RPK) - was significantly above last year's at 10.4 %, while available seat kilometers were increased by 5.5 %. When charter and holiday flights are included, the company actually managed to raise its revenue passenger kilometers by a full 12.4 %. As a result of these rises, the company was able to increase its load factor on scheduled services by 3.6 percentage points to pass the 80 % mark and reach a precise figure of 80.2 %. The Austrian Airlines Group also generated double-digit growth of 12.3 % in its September passenger numbers to exceed the psychologically important one million barrier once again, with 1.057 million passengers carried.

Ik versta niet goed waarom het ganse kot niet op zijn kop staat en de sektorjournalistiek niet op volle toeren draait rond de beslissing dat Virgin Express, zijnde SNBA onze nationale carrier, uit de GDSsen is gestapt en nog enkel via internet boekbaar is.

Ik heb daar NIET een bericht over gelezen voor 1 oktober en ook nog GEEN ENKEL bericht gelezen na 1 oktober. Misschien heb ik de berichten niet gezien?

Ik vind wel dat er een reden is op het kot op zijne kop te zetten.

Of ben ik de enig die deze zaak verkeerd inschat?
