The carrier of New Caledonia wants to increase its visibility
December, 21 2006 -- AVIAREPS, the well known world travel trade representation company, will provide sales and marketing representation in Canada for Aircalin from January 2007 on. Air Caledonie International, known and branded as Aircalin, is a French carrier based in the South Pacific Island of New Caledonia operating up to ten destinations in the South Pacific area, Japan and Australia.
Created in 1983, Aircalin now operates three Airbus (A330 and A320) and a twin otter with service to more than 10 international destinations in the South Pacific, and presently flies to Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Nadi, Port Vila, Wallis and Papeete on the island of Tahiti and to Tokyo and Osaka in Japan. Qantas signs firm order for eight additional A380s
21 December 2006 -- Qantas Airways has signed a firm order for eight more of the world’s largest and most advanced passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, taking the total number of A380s ordered by Australia’s national carrier to 20 aircraft.
The formal signing, which also covered an additional four Airbus A330-200s, took place at a ceremony in Sydney on 21st December, 2006, attended by Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Dixon, Qantas Chairman, Margaret Jackson, Airbus President and CEO, Louis Gallois, and Airbus Chief Operating Officer – Customers, John Leahy.
The orders follow a commitment announced by Qantas in October 2006.
Singapore Airlines boosts Airbus fleet with additional A380 orders
20 December 2006 -- Singapore Airlines has committed to expansion of its Airbus A380 fleet with the signing of a contract for an additional nine orders and six new options, details of which were announced by the airline on 21st July 2006. The delivery positions were protected by options accompanying the airline's original firm order for ten aircraft in 2001. The first A380 is scheduled for delivery to Singapore Airlines in October 2007. The airline also signed an agreement to lease nineteen new A330-300s.
The A380 is the solution for today and tomorrow's market requirements to satisfy airlines operating the world's major long-haul routes. Its ability to carry 555 passengers in a standard three-class layout will provide vital extra capacity to meet the growing demand for air travel without having to increase the number of flights. It will also give them the flexibility they need to install lower density seating without reducing the number of seats available - especially important in the highly competitive business class market.
SilkAir expands fleet with additional A320 aircraft
20 December 2006 -- SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, has signed a contract for an additional 11 A320 aircraft, plus nine further options. The airline currently operates an all Airbus fleet of five A319s and eight A320s, with two additional A320 Family aircraft from an order in 2002 still to join the fleet. The new A320s will be deployed on the airline's steadily expanding route network across Asia, which currently extends to 26 destinations in 10 countries.
Airbus delivers first VIP A340-600 to SAAD Air

18 December 2006 -- Airbus has delivered the first VIP version of its ultra long-haul A340-600, the world's longest airliner, to the private business group SAAD Air Ltd of Saudi Arabia, the first customer for the type.
The Airbus A340-600, which has yet to be outfitted with its VIP cabin, will seat around 80 passengers and is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engines. |
Asiana celebrates 100th aircraft delivery with another A330
18 December 2006 -- Asiana Airlines of South Korea celebrated the 100th aircraft to join its fleet by taking delivery of an A330-300 at Airbus’ base in Toulouse, France. The aircraft is the fifth A330 to be delivered to Asiana and the first to appear in the airline’s bold, new livery. A further A330 is scheduled to join the fleet in 2007.

Asiana first introduced the A330 into its fleet in December 2004, the A330 gradually replacing older generation aircraft on the regional network. Asiana’s A330s are configured in a two class arrangement of 30 business class / 260 economy class seats, and feature increased cabin comfort, cargo capacity and lower operating costs. The aircraft are powered by Pratt & Whitney PW 4000 engines.

Boeing Delivers 600th 777 to Singapore Airlines
EVERETT, Wash., Dec. 18, 2006 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] Friday delivered its 600th 777 airplane, to Singapore Airlines. The 777 program reached the milestone after 11 years in service, faster than any other twin-aisle airplane program in history.

Macau Celebrates 20 Millionth Arrival
The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) celebrated Macau's 20 millionth visitor in 2006, December 3, with Portuguese folk and Chinese dragon and lion dance performances at six major tourism locations on the Macau peninsula and Taipa Island.
Macau's travel and tourism industry is booming, with much of the growth coming from Southeast Asian markets as well as neighbouring China and Hong Kong. The Special Administrative Region welcomed almost 16%, or about 2.5 million, more arrivals from January to October 2006 compared to the same period last year.
Of the 33 individually identified source markets, 31 of them showed gains. Eighteen sources (including "Other countries") grew by more than 20% over the period. The slowest growth came from Switzerland, at a healthy +8%. Only Chinese Taipei (-5.5%) and DPR Korea (-37.5%) supplied fewer arrivals.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. Declares Remaining Dividend of $0.42 for 2006
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--Dec. 19, 2006-- Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) announced today that the company has declared a dividend of $0.42 per share. The Company's former REIT subsidiary paid dividends of $0.21 per share for each of the first and second quarters of 2006. The cash dividend payment of $0.42 per share will be paid on January 19, 2007 to shareholders of record on December 31, 2006 and brings the total 2006 dividend to $0.84 per share. The Company anticipates increasing the dividend by 5% for 2007 to an annual payment of $0.88 per share which would be paid in January 2008. Future dividends (including dividend increases) will be based on the earnings growth of the company and other considerations.
Agoda Signs Distribution Deal with Accor
PATA member Agoda, an independent online travel company that specialises in securing the lowest discount hotel prices in Asia and around the world, has signed a full content distribution agreement with Accor Asia Pacific. The deal provides Accor with a platform enabling it to more effectively sell inventory online via Agoda's comprehensive market coverage throughout the region.
Meanwhile, Accor Hotels and Resorts had been chosen as operator for the first two hotels within pioneering Lavasa Township near Pune.

CNL Hotels & Resorts Agrees to Sell 32 Properties for $405 Million
ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- CNL Hotels & Resorts, Inc., the nation's second largest hotel real estate investment trust, announced today that it entered into an agreement to sell 32 non-strategic hotels to an affiliate of Whitehall Street Global Real Estate Limited Partnership 2005 for approximately $405 million, or $88,447 per key. The sale price, which is subject to adjustment, represents a 7.8 percent capitalization rate based on projected 2006 net operating income.
The majority of the hotels are in the select service segment, comprising a total of 4,579 rooms, including: 14 Hampton Inns, 4 Holiday Inns, 3 Holiday Inn Expresses, 3 Residence Inns, 3 Sheratons, 2 Sheraton Four Points, 1 Courtyard, 1 Homewood Suites and 1 Ramada.

Online Travel Bookings Will Surpass Offline Bookings for the First Time in 2007

Le nombre grandissant de Belges qui ont fait des réservations en France et aux Pays-Bas en 2006 (comparé à la même période en 2005) a poussé la maison mère à desservir le marché belge directement. De plus, Kuoni était déjà fortement représenté en Europe, c'est pourquoi le pas vers la Belgique devenait de plus en plus petit.
Cette décision a été étayée par la spécificité du marché du voyage belge, qui est pratiquement duopole et qui contient un grand nombre de petits acteurs de niche locaux. Quelques-uns de ces acteurs de niche sont actifs dans les voyages aux long cours luxueux. Kuoni pense cependant qu'il y a de la place pour ses propres produits. En savoir plus.

Samenwerking TUI Nederland nv en EURAM nv België
TUI NEDERLAND N.V. en EURAM nv België besloten een internationale samenwerkingsovereenkomst te tekenen. Dit betekent dat de verkooppunten onder de naam Arke, Holland International Reisbureau en Reisadviesbureau Effting EurAm zullen gebruiken. Deze overeenkomst wordt tevens aangegaan voor Panta Reizen, V&D Reisbureau, Unie Reizen, Reisbureau Valkenswaard, Reisburo Brinkman en de franchisenemers van TUI Nederland NV onder de naam Holland International Reisbureau. Het gaat zich over totaal 220 agentschappen.
Al enige tijd liep er al een pilootproject met een 20-tal agentschappen. De resultaten waren bijzonder positief wat TUI Nederland heeft doen besluiten om de samenwerking met EurAm duidelijk vorm te geven. Voor EurAm betekent het een bijzonder grote stap op de Nederlandse markt en beduidende versterking van haar Europese positie. Koos Hekkert, Sales Manager Nederland is dan ook een gelukkig man: "Eerder dit jaar besloot ANWH een samenwerking met EurAm aan te gaan. Dat nu ook een partij als TUI Nederland besloten om een samenwerking met EURAM te tekenen betekent dat EurAm definitief haar plaats op de Nederlandse markt heeft ingenomen."

Vincent Van Gogh en het Expressionisme
Deze winter presenteert het Van Gogh Museum voor het eerst een tentoonstelling gewijd aan de invloed van Vincent Van Gogh op de Duitse en Oostenrijkse expressionisten. De expositie bestaat uit bijna 100 schilderijen en werken op papier van belangrijke expressionistische kunstenaars als Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Oskar Kokoschka, Egon Schiele en Gustav Klimt. De nadruk ligt op de sterke invloed van Van Gogh op deze kunstenaars in Duitsland en Oostenrijk van voor de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
Het sinds de Tweede Wereldoorlog verloren gewaande schilderij met verwelkte zonnebloemen van Egon Schiele (Herfstzon, 1914) is een van de topstukken van de tentoonstelling en zal naast de Zonnebloemen (1889) van Van Gogh te bewonderen zijn.
De expositie is georganiseerd in samenwerking met de Neue Galerie, New York.
