Scandinavian Airlines Introduces Biometric Check-In
Scandinavian Airlines has become one of the world's first airlines to introduce biometric security check-ins. It is now using biometric security at baggage check-in and boarding gates on domestic services across Sweden, following a successful trial period in northern Sweden. This is part of Scandinavian Airlines vision of simple travel to maintain an efficient self-service flow as security requirements are intensifying at the airports.

JAL International and JAL Domestic to Unify October 1st, 2006
Tokyo, Wednesday September 20, 2006: From October 1, 2006, Japan Airlines will be a single operating company, following the unification of the present two operating companies, JAL International and JAL Domestic companies. This change will complete the process of integrating the former Japan Airlines and Japan Air System.
The new single operating company will bear the name Japan Airlines International.

Estonian Air expands contracts with AVIAREPS
The Estonian carrier extends General Sales Agent cooperation for Denmark

September 19, 2006 -- With immediate effect, Estonian Air has appointed AVIAREPS as new representation for the market of Denmark. The airline representative is already General Sales Agent of the Estonian flag carrier in Germany, the Ukraine and Sweden. All ticketing and reservation activities for Estonian Air will be managed from the AVIAREPS office in Stockholm. Furthermore, the marketing and sales management will be handled by a local Sales Manager in Denmark.
Being the leading carrier from Copenhagen to Tallinn, the airline offers this service with three daily flights. The only exception is the weekend with two flights operated on Saturdays and one on Sundays.

JAL & Korean Air Expand Code Share Partnership by 40%
Tokyo, Tuesday September 19, 2006: Japan Airlines (JAL) and Korean Air (KAL) have agreed to expand their code share agreement from October 29, 2006 by adding extra flights to existing code share routes and by starting new twice-daily code share flights on the Tokyo-Busan and Osaka (Kansai)-Busan routes.
Overall, from late October the JAL - Korean Air code share program between the two countries will increase by 40% from the present 133 flights per week over 9 routes to 186 flights a week over 11 routes.

Malév to resume Beirut service
Malév restarts scheduled flights to Beirut from 19 September 2006. The Hungarian national carrier took the decision to restore operations to Beirut when, in the wake of the normalization of the situation in the Middle East, Israel lifted its air blockade against Lebanon, thereby re-establishing the conditions for secure operations.
The majority of airlines with services to Beirut have either restored flights to the Lebanese capital or signalled their intention to do so.
From 19 September, Malév flies between Budapest and Beirut twice a week at the usual scheduled times i.e. flights depart Budapest at 23.20 on Tuesday and Friday, and leave Beirut for the return leg the following day, on Wednesday and Saturday, departing at 04.10 in the morning.

Taiwan renames CKS Airport as 'Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport'
Taiwan's main airport has changed its name from Chiang Kai-shek International Airport to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, following approval of the change at a regular Cabinet meeting Sept. 6. The change will remove the name of the late president and, in the future, reflect the airport's geographic location in Taoyuan County.
Nieuwe internationale luchthaven Bangkok opent 28 september
Op 28 september 2006 opent de nieuwe luchthaven: "Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport" haar deuren voor passagiers. Alle internationale vluchten worden op deze datum overgenomen van de huidige luchthaven "Don Muang".
De nieuwe luchthaven ligt 25 km naar het zuid oosten ten opzichte van centrum van Bangkok. Het centrum zal in 40 min. via 2 nieuwe Highways te bereiken zijn. De drie-letter code BKK blijft hetzelfde en zal vanaf 28 september gebruikt worden om de nieuwe luchthaven aan te duiden.
De naam "Suvarnabhumi" is gegeven door Koning Bhumipol Adulyadej van Thailand en betekent "gouden land". Suvarnabhumi wordt uitgeproken als: "suwanna-poom".

Op alle andere (toeristische) locaties is de staatsgreep nauwelijks merkbaar. Bij de bevolking is er een brede steun voor de militairen die trouwens ook de sympathie van de koning genieten. Er is dus geen enkele reden om te annuleren, zelfs niet om uit te stellen. Eventuele annuleringen vallen dus onder de normale algemene voorwaarden.

Glass Behind Glass
One of the largest glass collections in Europe will present its treasures again from 8 October 2006. The Hentrich Glass Museum, a section of the "museum kunst palest" in Düsseldorf, will be reopened following extensive renovation.
The previous presentation space has been increased by more than 4,800 square feet and the exhibition has a new concept.
