Boeing Next-Generation 737 Delivery Brings THY Fleet to 100 Airplanes
ISTANBUL, Aug. 24, 2006 -- At a ceremony held today in Istanbul, Boeing and THY Airlines celebrated the delivery of THY's 100th airplane, a Boeing Next-Generation 737-800. Boeing delivered the airplane to THY on Aug. 17 in Seattle. By bringing its fleet to 100 airplanes, THY is continuing its steady growth and expansion program.
This latest 737-800 marks THY's 40th 737-800 and its 58th 737, with more deliveries planned in the future.



LAB bounces back to Europe
LAB Airlines of Bolivia are restarting direct scheduled services from Madrid to Bolivia from August 25th. Initially operating every Monday and Thursday, the frequency is likely to be increased to three a week from early September.
The reintroduction of this 309 seater, L10-11 Tristar service coincides with the delivery of a Boeing 767-200 aircraft which will be used on international services between Bolivia and the United States. Read more.



Des conditions météo exceptionnelles pourraient avoir provoqué le crash du Tu-154
Des conditions météorologiques inhabituelles pourraient être à l'origine de la catastrophe aérienne survenue dans la région de Donetsk à l'avion de ligne russe Tu-154, a annoncé le ministre ukrainien des Transport, Nikolaï Roudkovski.
Selon la commission gouvernementale unifiée russo-ukrainienne chargée d'enquêter sur les circonstances du crash, il y avait à bord de l'appareil 160 passagers, dont environ 45 enfants, et 10 membres d'équipage.
L'avion Tu-154 de la compagnie aérienne Poulkovo assurant un vol entre Anapa et Saint-Pétersbourg s'était écrasé le 22 août à 45 kilomètres de Donetsk (Ukraine). Il n'y avait eu aucun survivant.

Austrian Indulges Business Class With First Original Viennese Coffee House Service And Chefs On Board
Austrian will offer an even stronger culinary service on its long-haul Business Class flights from 24 August onwards. Until now, Business Class passengers on intercontinental flights have 'only' received the attentions of an on-board chef on Austrian's Boeing fleet, but this service is now to be provided on the company's Airbus fleet as well.
Six-course gourmet menus are to be created by Austrian and international chefs, and subsequently refined à la minute by a professional chef on board. Business Class passengers will now have the chance to enjoy this exclusive personal service from a top chef on all Austrian long-haul flights. Read more.


TAM Receives Eighth Airbus A320 This Year; Fleet Totals 89 Aircraft
SAO PAULO, Brazil, Aug. 22 -- TAM S.A., Brazil's largest airline company, has received another Airbus aircraft A320. The aircraft will be incorporated as of tomorrow (23rd). It will be the 8th airbus A320 incorporated this year into TAM's fleet, bringing the total to 89 aircraft, of which 67 are Airbus models -- 13 A319, 44 A320, and 10 A330 (two of which are subleased but will return to the company this year). TAM expects its fleet to achieve a minimum of 96 airplanes at the end of 2006.
The aircraft is part of total contracts of 64 Airbus aircraft -- 15 A319, 43 A320 and 6 A330 --
to be delivered until 2010. The contracts include the option of an additional 20 aircraft. TAM's strategical plan foresees an operational fleet of 127 Airbus aircraft by the end of 2010.

Air France Increases capacity To Detroit Thanks To Codeshare Agreement With Northwest
Starting on September 2, 2006, Air France customers will benefit from 13 weekly flights instead of the former 6 between Paris and Detroit.
This enhanced service has resulted from the signing of a codeshare agreement between Air France and the US carrier Northwest, member of the SkyTeam alliance. Read more.

Air France is ready to resume its scheduled flight service between Paris and Beirut using wide-bodied aircraft, as soon as it has received the required administrative and technical clearance.



AVIAREPS expands business with Ethiopian Airlines
Airline representative becomes GSA for Switzerland

Airline representation specialist AVIAREPS has expanded its service for Ethiopian Airlines. From now on the Swiss subsidiary Airlinecenter is appointed to be General Sales Agent for Ethiopian Airlines for the Swiss market. AVIAREPS already represents Ethiopian Airlines in the markets of Belgium, Austria and Latin America. General Manager Thomas Welti heads the Airlinecenter offices in Switzerland. One is located in Zurich and one in Geneva.  
 The African airline is the national flag carrier of Ethiopia offers flights to Europe, America, Middle East and Asia. Destinations in Europe are for example Frankfurt, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and Stockholm. Ethiopian Airlines operates a modern fleet of six Boeing 767-300 for long-haul flights, nine Boeings for middle-range flights and several Fokkers for the domestic routes. With the requirement of the ultramodern Boeing 787 jetliner the airline will become first operator in Africa of the new jet.

Copa Airlines Announces Flights To Rio de Janeiro From Panama
Copa Airlines announces flights to Rio de Janeiro from Panama. The airline will operate Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft on the new route. The flight, to be operated five times a week, will depart from Panama City at 19:11 and arrive in Rio de Janeiro at 04:02 the following morning.

Nouveaux records pour Cuba
Selon le Ministre du Tourisme de Cuba l'île a accueilli 2.319.334 visiteurs internationaux en 2005 ce qui constitue un record historique et une progression de 13,2% par rapport à 2004.
Au cours des quatre premiers mois de 2006 le tourisme cubain affiche une hausse de 3,3%. Pour l'année en cours les autorités cubaines espèrent atteindre ou dépasser le chiffre de 2,5 millions de visiteurs ce qui constitue une progression de 7,7 % par rapport à l'année précédente.

Gerrit Jessen appointed to the European Council of Meeting Professionals International (MPI)
Berlin – August 2006 - On July 1, Gerrit Jessen, Managing Director of p’concept Berlin, agency for international congress & event management, was appointed to the European Council of Meeting Professionals International.
The work of the 6-member internationally assigned panel, lead by Sébastien Tondeur, CEO of MCI, will focus on the following points:
1) Work on the next European Chapter Development Plan
2) Support the 11 European Chapters to optimise integration and communication of the current MPI projects
3) Revise grant applications for projects presented to the MPI Foundation Europe
4) Develop a Best-Practices-Platform for all existing and future European MPI Chapters
 Jessen has been a member of the board of directors of MPI Germany since 1999 and was President of the Germany Chapter from 2003 until 2005. He brought the MPI PEC - Europe 2003 to Berlin and successfully organised the conference with his agency and local partners.
