MALEV HAPPY ABOUT “TOURIST INVASION IN BUDAPEST“
The number of foreign visitors to Budapest hit an all-time record this summer.
Not only were the numbers of tourists impressive, but they spent a huge sum too. Hotel revenues for this year were HUF 180.000€. According to estimates tourists spend more money in the capital in a year than the municipality's entire annual budget. That is, around 2 billion €.
Budapest has ended a successful tourism season, breaking all records as regards the number of foreign visitors. The proportion of guest nights continued to climb, by 10% against the previous year. 15% more booked 5-star rooms, 10% more booked 4-star accommodation in comparison with 2004.
Budapest is the champion of Europe in terms of growth in guest nights, said László Fekete, managing director of the Tourism Office of Budapest (BTH). The Summer Opera and Ballet Festival and the Sziget Festival attracted thousands. Similarly successful was the “Summer on Chain Bridge Festival”.
Malév Hungarian Airlines is delighted to be actively supporting this trend. Thanks to the booming number of tourists, the national flag carrier realizes increase in sales not only thanks to business travellers, but also City-trippers, Incentive Organizers and Tour Operators.
