Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group Honoured in 2009 Hong Kong and Macau Michelin Guide
The launch of the highly anticipated Michelin Guide for Hong Kong and Macau was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre last night. The event was well attended by hospitality industry professionals and VIPs all of whom were there to witness which of Hong Kong’s restaurants would receive a coveted Michelin star.
Amber at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, was honoured to receive two Michelin stars. The restaurant features the innovative and exhilarating cuisine of Richard Ekkebus.
Pierre at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, which features the bold three-star Michelin cuisine of Pierre Gagnaire, received one Michelin star, as did Tung Yee Heen, the distinguished Cantonese restaurant at Mandarin Oriental, Macau.
In addition, Yee Tung Heen at The Excelsior, which is managed by Mandarin Oriental, was merited with the prestigious Bib Gourmand, which is given to those restaurants that offer a ‘high quality dining experience at an affordable price.’
Michelin is regarded as an international benchmark for gourmet dining. A restaurant that receives one or more stars is not only regarded as the best in its country, but also one of the best restaurants in the world.
One star denotes a ‘very good restaurant in its category,’ while two stars are awarded to a restaurant offering ‘excellent cooking that is worth a detour.’ Richard Ekkebus of Amber, Philippe Orrico, Chef de Cuisine of Pierre, Vong Kua Iu of Tung Yee Heen in Macau and Tom Chung of Yee Tung Heen at The Excelsior were all on hand to receive the coveted awards. “We are truly delighted to receive this prestigious accolade,” said Andrew Hirst, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s Operation Director, Asia. “It speaks volumes about the dedication to fine dining excellence that all of our hotels offer.”
