Taipei, March 15 (CNA) Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) called China on Wednesday to respect Taiwan’s democracy and recognize the reality of its existence, so as to facilitate the development of constructive cross-strait relations.
The MAC made the call in a statement issued in response to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s reiteration of the “One China” principle at a press conference in Beijing at the end of the annual session of the National People’s Congress.
“It is an established policy of the government since it took office on May 20 last year to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” the MAC said in its statement.
That policy will not be shaken no matter how the situation changes, the MAC said.
Mainland China should face the reality of differences in the development of the political regimes on each side of the Taiwan Strait, the MAC said.
China should also recognize and respect the existence of Taiwan’s democracy and the core values of its administration, which are based on public opinion, the MAC said.
Only when China can do this will cross-strait ties be able to develop in a constructive manner, the MAC said.

Brussels, March 7 (CNA) Beijing has changed its strategy of helping Taiwan to prosper alongside China’s economic growth and instead is now trying to impoverish Taiwan to make it more dependent on mainland China, a Chinese academic said Tuesday.
China’s policy toward Taiwan has clearly been to do everything it can to stop any Taiwan independence campaign, said Song Xinning (宋新寧), director of the European Institute for Asian Studies, at a seminar on “The Trump Presidency: Implications for Northeast Asia.”
If there are no independence moves by Taiwan, there will be no problems in cross-Taiwan Strait relations, Song said at the seminar, which was aimed at making an initial assessment of how much change is likely to come out of the U.S.-Japan alliance during Trump’s first term and examining the broader implications for regional security dynamics in Northeast Asia.
In an interview with CNA on the sidelines of the forum, Song expanded on his comments, saying that there is a growing call in China for efforts to derail Taiwan’s economy, which is closely linked to China’s.
Those who are making the proposal think that it would be in the China’s interest to wreck Taiwan’s economy, he said.…Read More »
Warsaw, 3 March 2017 – The cheapest tariff without luggage, or a fully flexible, refundable ticket offering the opportunity to change your travel dates? LOT provides its passengers with great flexibility when it comes to selecting the way they want to travel. Introduction of new economy class tariffs – SAVER, STANDARD and FLEX – enables everyone to choose the option that is tailored to their specific needs.
From now on, LOT passengers traveling on domestic and European routes, may choose from three economy class tariffs: SAVER, STANDARD and FLEX. Each of them offers a different range of products and services included in the ticket price.
“Our passengers are very conscious consumers who are well aware of what they are paying for, and – most importantly – are not willing to pay for services they don’t need. We strive to meet their expectations by offering three pricing variants, with each of them tailored to suit different needs” – says Michał Fijoł, CCO of LOT.
The SAVER variant is the simplest and the most cost-effective option to travel by LOT. Passengers taking advantage of this tariff are only permitted to take carry-on luggage, and cannot return the ticket or change their travel dates.…Read More »
