Abacus, Asia’s leading provider of travel solutions and services, today announced a new partnership with ACE Travel Insurance to distribute its insurance products to all Abacus-connected travel agents across the Asia region, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Thailand as a first phase.

Travel agents can access the content via Abacus’ fully-integrated travel insurance booking solution, Abacus TravelSecure, which allows the processing of travel insurance transactions electronically within the same Passenger Name Record (PNR). These insurance products will be available to other Asia Pacific markets in the second phase of the roll out.

Speaking at the ACE product launch in Malaysia, Mr. Brett Henry, Vice President Marketing, Abacus International, said Abacus was delighted to have another quality provider available in its system.

“By enhancing the quality and variety of travel insurance products in Abacus’ distribution system, travel agents will be able to offer more choices to their customers. Concurrently, we are also helping travel agencies increase their revenue opportunities by maximising the travel insurance sales options to their customers.”

Mr. David Fedarb, ACE Regional Head of Travel Insurance for Southeast Asia, said the company was delighted to partner with Abacus in order to provide the Asian travel agency market with access to its products.

Non-air income – that is, sales derived from hotel and car bookings as well as insurance –could account for over 50% of a travel agent’s income in Singapore and Hong Kong, according to Abacus booking data. It does vary between travel agencies across the region with a lower uptake in other Asia Pacific markets.

Mr. Henry said that these markets were catching up. “Abacus is experiencing rapid growth in its insurance category with an average of 14% year-on-year growth in bookings. Of the five markets, Vietnam is in the lead posting at least a 20% month-on-month increase. With the new ACE Travel Insurance content, we are forecasting a 20% increase in insurance bookings on top of the current bookings, across these five markets,” added Mr. Henry.

Technologie de détection de visages avancée
Cette technologie recherche les visages dans la composition et les identifie comme sujets principaux. L’appareil photo ajuste automatiquement les réglages pour une mise au point et une exposition optimales afin d’obtenir des visages nets et parfaitement exposés. Cette technologie avancée permet de détecter jusqu’à 16 visages.

Technologie « AF »
Ce système détecte automatiquement les sujets en mouvement et en ajuste continuellement la mise au point afin de garantir des clichés d’une netteté optimale. Il mémorise également les données des sujets, même s’ils sortent du champ, afin de les réinitialiser lorsqu’ils réapparaissent.

Mode Beauté
Le mode beauté retouche l’apparence des sujets au moment même de la prise de vue. Cette fonction reconnaît les visages et rend automatiquement la peau du visage et les zones voisines plus lisses, plus brillantes et plus jeunes.

Double stabilisation d’image
Avec sa double protection, cette fonction spéciale permet d’éviter que l’image soit floue en cas de bougé ou si le sujet se déplace rapidement. Elle combine un réglage de sensibilité ISO élevé avec un stabilisateur d’image mécanique lié au capteur CCD. Un gyrocapteur intégré détecte les mouvements de l’appareil photo et ajuste le capteur CCD en conséquence.

Mode Panorama intégré à l’appareil
Un mode permettant aux utilisateurs de composer instantanément des prises de vue panoramiques d’approximativement 130°, directement depuis l’appareil. En ajustant chaque prise de vue avec la précédente grâce au mode de visualisation, de superbes scènes panoramiques peuvent être créées par juxtaposition, pour un rendu extrêmement réaliste et riche en émotions de vos paysages, qu’ils soient terrestres ou célestes.

Mode « i-Auto »
Ce mode « auto-intelligent » utilise la technologie de détection automatique avancée pour permettre à l’appareil de reconnaître automatiquement les cinq scènes les plus fréquemment utilisées. Il permet de tirer des photos parfaites sans réglage manuel.

Les images peuvent être organisées par personne avec une nouvelle technologie de reconnaissance des visages, par endroit avec la fonction de localisation basée sur un système GPS ou par événement. Sketch : donne l’impression que les sujets ont été esquissés par un dessinateur, grâce à, la transformation des images en traits.
Pin Hole : réduit la clarté périphérique à l’instar d’une image vue à travers une serrure. De plus, une couleur unique donne une impression de confidentialité et d’intimité aux portraits, qui semblent perdus dans une autre dimension.

Photo Surfing
En sélectionnant cette option dans le menu Playback, les utilisateurs peuvent choisir de parcourir les photos par date, scène, personne, endroit ou image.

A new approach to China

Like many other well-known organizations, we face cyber attacks of varying degrees on a regular basis. In mid-December, we detected a highly sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China that resulted in the theft of intellectual property from Google. However, it soon became clear that what at first appeared to be solely a security incident–albeit a significant one–was something quite different.

First, this attack was not just on Google. As part of our investigation we have discovered that at least twenty other large companies from a wide range of businesses–including the Internet, finance, technology, media and chemical sectors–have been similarly targeted. We are currently in the process of notifying those companies, and we are also working with the relevant U.S. authorities.

Second, we have evidence to suggest that a primary goal of the attackers was accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. Based on our investigation to date we believe their attack did not achieve that objective. Only two Gmail accounts appear to have been accessed, and that activity was limited to account information (such as the date the account was created) and subject line, rather than the content of emails themselves.

Third, as part of this investigation but independent of the attack on Google, we have discovered that the accounts of dozens of U.S.-, China- and Europe-based Gmail users who are advocates of human rights in China appear to have been routinely accessed by third parties. These accounts have not been accessed through any security breach at Google, but most likely via phishing scams or malware placed on the users’ computers.

We have already used information gained from this attack to make infrastructure and architectural improvements that enhance security for Google and for our users. In terms of individual users, we would advise people to deploy reputable anti-virus and anti-spyware programs on their computers, to install patches for their operating systems and to update their web browsers. Always be cautious when clicking on links appearing in instant messages and emails, or when asked to share personal information like passwords online. We have taken the unusual step of sharing information about these attacks with a broad audience not just because of the security and human rights implications of what we have unearthed, but also because this information goes to the heart of a much bigger global debate about freedom of speech. In the last two decades, China’s economic reform programs and its citizens’ entrepreneurial flair have lifted hundreds of millions of Chinese people out of poverty. Indeed, this great nation is at the heart of much economic progress and development in the world today.

We launched Google.cn in January 2006 in the belief that the benefits of increased access to information for people in China and a more open Internet outweighed our discomfort in agreeing to censor some results. At the time we made clear that “we will carefully monitor conditions in China, including new laws and other restrictions on our services. If we determine that we are unable to achieve the objectives outlined we will not hesitate to reconsider our approach to China.”

These attacks and the surveillance they have uncovered–combined with the attempts over the past year to further limit free speech on the web–have led us to conclude that we should review the feasibility of our business operations in China. We have decided we are no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn, and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search engine within the law, if at all. We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.

The decision to review our business operations in China has been incredibly hard, and we know that it will have potentially far-reaching consequences. We want to make clear that this move was driven by our executives in the United States, without the knowledge or involvement of our employees in China who have worked incredibly hard to make Google.cn the success it is today. We are committed to working responsibly to resolve the very difficult issues raised.

Boston, Mass. – On The Spot Systems, Inc., announced today that their iPhone application, SURVEY ON THE SPOT, is now available to air travelers to rate airport security screening by completing a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) survey. SURVEY ON THE SPOT uses the iPhone’s GPS to identify the user’s location and enables smartphone users to answer a TSA questionnaire quickly and easily immediately after passing through the security checkpoint.

“The application is very easy to use. It can identify which airport you are flying out of, allowing you to provide the TSA with feedback on your experience immediately after you’ve passed through security screening,” said Ken Kimmel, president of On The Spot Systems. “SURVEY ON THE SPOT also allows travelers to add photos and comments that they feel will help the TSA improve the national security system.”

SURVEY ON THE SPOT provides air travelers with easy access to a questionnaire that has been used by the TSA to rate screening procedures and gauge consumer confidence in the security of air travel.

There is no cost to complete the TSA survey. iPhone users can simply download SURVEY ON THE SPOT free from the Apple App store. Upon starting the app, users enter TSA and then press ‘Find surveys around me’. The system will identify the airport they are departing from and allow them to begin the survey. The survey can also be accessed on other smartphones, such as Android and Blackberry, by using the mobile web browser to go to surveyonthespot.com and entering the TSA survey code, as well as the city and state of the traveler’s departure.

On The Spot Systems will provide all survey results to the TSA. “Our hope is that the feedback gathered through SURVEY ON THE SPOT will help the TSA improve its current system,” Kimmel said. “Given the holiday timing, we have not been able to confirm specifics with them, but felt compelled to make SURVEY ON THE SPOT available to the TSA and travelers in the US as a public service, particularly given recent airport security concerns.”

SURVEY ON THE SPOT was introduced on the iPhone app store in November 2009 and was designed for restaurants, hotels, retailers and other organizations to gather real-time guest satisfaction feedback using iPhone and smartphone technology. For more information visit http://www.onthespotsystems.com.
