Massive cruise ships face significant challenges

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s newest vessel, the Oasis of the Seas, set sail on its inaugural cruise on Saturday with about 5,400 passengers. The Oasis is one of several new mega cruise ships. However, the industry faces major challenges as a result of the economic downturn. Cruise lines have succeeded in filling their ships but only through substantial price cuts. However, travel agents are reporting indications that the cruise bookings will rebound early next year. The Wall Street Journal (12/4)
